Any word on if it's backwards compatible or not?

It is not backwards compatible.

Is backwards compatibility coming back?
"No plans right now," Koller said. "To be honest, there's such a substantial lineup of PlayStation 3 game discs now that we feel the consumer is more apt to be playing the PlayStation 3 games when they purchase the PlayStation 3."
Kind of a silly statement considering the PS2 is selling more than the PS3. Wouldn't BC be yet another good way to get all those people who still love the PS2 to upgrade?

All of those systems got a "Slim" version after the originals released. Buying a Sony product is like buying a new computer, by the time u get home from the store, there's a new model out.

Like i said, i should have seen this coming as Sony cant stick with their original ideas. Ah well, there is no way in hell i could have waited any longer for Uncharted and MGS4.

The PS came out in 1995. The PS1 (slim) came out in 2000.
The PS2 came out in 2000. the PS2 Slim came out in 2004.
The PSP came out in 2004 (2005 in US). Slim came out in 2007.
The PS3 came out in 2006. The PS3 slim came out in 2009.

I wouldn't call the minimum 3 years "by the time you get home."

Before the PS3 was even released Sony said the PS3 would be an evolving system that tehy would continue to improve an upgrade. They stuck to that with the many different HDD versions they released. Are you expecting to have just only released the original 60gb and NEVER do anything else with that hardware? Im sorry but thats ridiculous, considering technology is alwayas evolving and electronic equipment especially get revisions as time goes on. Look at Microsoft with the 360 and Nintendo with its numerous Gameboy and DS iterations. Its no different

There was a rumor of a chip which could do so. I dont think Sony will bring back BC until they can figure out a way to upgrade the firmware to allow it for all the 80 and 160gb systems out there that dont have it. Its best considering the backlash they'd get if they didnt

Is There A 250GB PS3 Slim As Well?

The PS3 Slim has been announced, and it's coming in one size: 120GB. Well, it is at the moment, anyway. We could soon be seeing a 250GB model.

A couple of FCC reports dating back to May have revealed that when submitting the console for testing, Sony provided four units: the vanilla 120GB retail machine, two variants of a 120GB dev kit model, and a 250GB retail unit.

Interesting. Haven't heard squat about this 250GB model. A pricier, grander model for the holiday season, perhaps? Something to be unveiled during Sony's TGS press conference? Who knows. We've reached out to Sony for comment, and will update if we hear back.

It has been 2 USB slots since the 40gb was released (that includes the 80gb and 160gb).

The solution others have found is to buy this.

My friend is selling me his two month old 80G for $200. I'm going to get my first ps3 for the same price as my first ps2, hells yeah, biatches!!!

EDIT: Actually less, I don't have to worry about tax this time. Oh, and does anyone have any advice for what games I should get first? I own mgs4, and my friend can lend me re5, bioshock, and fallout 3. Right now I'm thinking about older games, like Oblivion: GOTY, GTAIV, and M:UA.

I dont know which to get Slim has more memory, but honestly looks like cheap plastic to me. I might just go with the 80GB "phat" version.

Also a bit OT: is anybody getting a PSP Go. Im a little on the fence with that one

If you are lucky enough, you might even be able to find the 80gb with MGS4 and Killzone 2 at Best Buy

If memory is your concern, get the 80gb and then get this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136197

It will cost a bit more than the Slim, but it is alternative if you do not like the Slim's case.

Just a note to add, all hands on experience with the Slim as pointed out that the new model does not feel cheap at all in build quality.

I'd love to get a PS3 Slim, but it all likihood I won't be able to get it, esp. since I have two consoles already. I'll get a Blu-Ray player in the future, but I can't convince my wife that I need one that costs $299 (yeah, I know it plays games too, but it won't help me get pass my wife).
