Default Why can't, and can they....(Marvel/DC question)

With all the superhero movies out there, there is more Marvel than DC. Why can't Marvel just help DC get their films off the ground? But also, is it, or would it be, possible for that to happen? Marvel helping DC?

P.S. And I'm NOT even suggesting Marvel help DC change their characters like Superman or Wonder Woman in order for it to work. So don't think, nor even say that.

Because Marvel is DC's competitor?

You don't see Microsoft trying to help IBM, do you? What's in it for Marvel?

1. Why on earth would one company help a competitor?

2. There are more Marvel movies than DC movies because only one company, Warner Bros, can make DC movies. The Marvel characters are shared between Fox (X-Men, FF, Daredevil), Sony (Spider-Man), New Line (Blade), and Marvel themselves (Iron Man, Hulk).

Why would they?

And the problem isn't that DC can't get their projects off the ground, it's that they don't. WB is perfectly capable or getting movies made, what with the 20 or so they release every year.

Odiin:

DC can't do much IIRC. They're an ant compared to the WB film division. I'd be surprised if they had any power in the WB machine at all.

Obviously when I'm taking about DC in regards to films, I'm talking about Warner Bros.

heh-heh.. great question.. but hey.. WB's iron clad hold on DC as a corporate outlet is their greatest asset but also their greatest demerit.. if the vison pitched by a producer doesn't get past the designated Gatekeepers, it doesn't go anywhere-- especially now that apparently even New Line is being downsized back into the WB fold, and won't even be a semi-independent studio anymore..

IMO, so there needs to be a full-fledged DC Studios to handle all the DC films, with only a handful of execs, who really know and appreciate the comics-- too many execs spoil the soup, and there needs to be a streamlined vision on how the characters should be developed.. in a shared universe, for once!!

Why can't WB help out Marvel with live action television? Or with developing more than superheroes to the screen? Or help them have a better track record with animation?

WB and New Line are in the business of offering a diversified series of films instead of merely superhero Summer tentpoles. And it would be stupid of them not to utilize Batman and Superman foremost among the superhero properties they do have. Toss in the Harry Potter films as sapping resources away from the development of franchises that aren't sure things and there really hasn't been much room nor incentive to make it a priority to develop DC's other characters. Harry Potter trumps Marvel's superheroes for world wide box office, yes including Spider-Man, and that's where WB's energies have been concentrated this decade.

Whoa! Too much like right.

At the moment, I just cannot see WB trying to fix something that looks glaringly obvious to everyone but them...

But I agree with you.
