Say nothing, but follow them, wait until you get the chance to do it again. As you hold the door, and they are just about to walk through, let it shut on them.

![]() Personally though, I wouldn't say anything. I mean you could say a sarcastic "You're welcome" to them, but I don't really feel like saying anything is needed because it's basically like you're doing a good deed just to be rewarded in some way. It really shouldn't matter whether they say thanks or not since you should just walk away from it with the satisfaction of knowing that you did a good deed.

"You know, I wasn't going to rape you".
One of my college professors told us that if you hold the door open for women in particular, they will often fear rape, and be less than courteous. Makes sense. I mean, holding a door open for someone in public is just like a dark alley and chloroform...

"You're Welcome" will usually get the point across nicely.

Oh yeah, it does usually. They often look like they realized they should have said thanks. Some actually say thanks at this point.

Simply smile and tell them they have passed the first test, and will get the antidote after they pass the third one.

The thing that I hate more than people not saying 'thanks' when I hold a door for them, is when they don't hold the door for me after several instances where I've done it for them specifically. Like in my apartment building, I hold the front door downstairs for everybody whenever I come or go. But whenever I'm coming up the stairs and somebody opens the door, they look at me and see me coming, but they still let the door close. Most times I don't mind, but it really irks me when I'm carrying something and can't manage to get my keys out.

I usually dont say anything. When they wake up in a ditch, on the brink of death, with a smile carved on there face and a note attatched to them that says "be more polite" they usually get hte picture...

You follow them and punch them really hard in the back of the head. Then run like hell.

When I used to work at the FYE in the mall near where I went to High School, we always had to hold doors open for people as we were coming in if we were in uniform. I rarely got thanked, and it never really bothered me, until this woman in her late 30's came in behind me with a girl who was no older than 14. I hold the door open for the girl, and and as she walks past she says "Heh, nice try, but it'll take more than that to get in my pants" and then when I look at the mother in complete bewilderment, she gives me this nasty look and says "My daughter is no ****, mother****er!". She then proceeds to shove past me into the mall. I still can't believe it happened.

In terms of certain things, though, like donating money or whatever, yeah, I usually do that in secret.

Say nothing. You're holding the door open, because it's polite. Keep being polite . . .
