i just hope they don't go with the goatee look. I think it would look to close to RDJ's Tony Stark. I would love it if they stuck to the original concept from the sixties of Doctor Strange being inspired by Vincent Price with the slick hair and the pencil mustache.

Yeah, if he wasn't Iron Man, he would be my pick.

Someone mentioned Luke Evans for Doctor Strange on another board and wouldn't mind seeing him as Strange

Agreed. Depp is one of the few actors in this generation that can do just about any role and Doctor Strange would fit him like an old shoe!

Depp would be way too expensive, have his own demands, be too distracting and unwilling to sign a multi-franchise contract. IMO
Marvel need a team player and they never pick the "obvious" choice anyway

John Cusack would actually be really good. He'd be great if he had a scene with Tony Stark.

I dunno, Cusack doesn't play physical well to me.
Can't see him as a Superhero, even one with non-physical powers. Agreed that Depp would be to expensive, as would most people on the poll.

For some reason I keep thinking of Adrien Brody. I think it's because he has a natural weirdness about him that makes me think he could sell all the mystic hocus pocus stuff without seeming awkward.

I would absolutely love John Cusack to get the role.

Cusack has never been one of my choices for Strange, but I definitely wouldn't mind it.

While I love John I find it difficult picturing him as the sorcerer supreme. Yes he has the goatee and is looking all intense in the picture above but I've never seen him in anything for me to believe he can do it. I can see him do the pre accident Stephen possibly. He would have to.do a really transformative take on the role for me to believe he is Dr. Strange.

Now that Strange is as good as confirmed for 2014, shouldn't it be time to create a Doc Strange subforum?

I just saw a commercial last night for Gillette featuring Adrien Brody. He is sporting some really good facial hair that really evokes a Dr. Strange look. I'd definitely support him for the Sorcerer Supreme. Good actor and has been the lead in several movies, but not so big that he is going to demand a huge paycheck.

I want someone who actually has not stretched their chops in one of these roles before. I know we can go to the requisite thespians, but I like to see actors forced out of comfort zones.

Disclaimer: I fully support fan-fave Johnny Depp for this role if they go for a proven big name.
But here's my totally out-there, left-field pick: If his English improves at the rate Marion Cotillard's did after she won her Oscar, I think Jean Dujardin would be an amazing Dr. Strange. I know people are typically against the idea of someone with a foreign accent playing a superhero because they usually aren't written with accents, but I think it could work for Strange because A.) he's more of a traveler and a defender of our world/dimension rather than one of a specific country/city, and B.) Unless I'm mistaken, Strange is his original last name, and well, it IS French. But I've been catching up with his work since I first saw The Artist in December, and the guy is a brilliant actor - he can do drama and has had plenty of bizarre, quirkier roles as well, he has effortless charisma and screen presence, and he can rock any style of facial hair they could ever dream up to give him (he's pretty much had them all at some point*), lol. IF he is gonna "Go Hollywood" with a blockbuster, I'd much rather see him do something like this than play the token Euro-villain role that most foreign actors get stuck with once they "make it big" here. *even that porn 'stache-looking thing in the comic panels posted higher up on this page. Yeah, he's had that. Or something close to it.
