"It is well known that Oldman tried to get out of appearing in The Dark Knight, but his contract wouldn't allow it."

You think if something had popped up online regarding Oldman wanting out, it would've been all over these boards.

Interesting, so Oldman alludes to Nolans return for a third and the Riddler appearing.

I was never a massive riddler fan, so i dont see all the fuss over having him in the third film. However it seems that loads of people here love him to bits. Does anyone know of a really good riddler story in the comics that might change my mind?
I really want Nolan to come back for a third, If there is one film to break the trilogy curse its this one. |

I never liked Riddler. Although the article seanbaby did about him was hilarious:

As has been noted, Nolan doesn't really tend to think too far ahead, preferring to concentrate on the present task. I doubt he's made plans on a third film or to focus on Edward Nigma. Even in the case that he did, I sorely doubt Oldman would let that slip prior to the second film's release.
Going against the lack of veracity I believe this article to hold, I prefer they not rehash another villain if there is to be another film.

It did and he said he's about ready to retire. I didn't make that up and I read the article on this very message board about a year ago.

Even if that quote from Oldman is legit (which I'm very doubtful about), then he's probably just saying that the Riddler's another potential villain they could use, not that they're going to use him. And until there's some form of proof, I'm calling BS on their claim that Oldman tried to get out of doing TDK.

If it's fake then the writer has to write a retraction and letter of apology or get his and Movieweb's ass kicked by WB. Journalists are not allowed to just make up quotes like that and pretend they talked to people. They can take things out of context and misrepresents quotes but that's not what's happening here.

I remember an interview around the release of Batman Begins where Oldman and Freeman were being asked questions about the film and potential sequels. It was a sit down interview, they asked both of them if they wanted to come back. Oldman said "I certainly hope so, i'd love to be apart of this again, what do you think Morgan? Aren't we under contract to do another?" Morgan replies "From your mouth to Gods ears".
Seems like he wanted to do more then.

Here, it's not a direct issue with the Batman project, he's just over the business as a whole and is getting ready to move on. This is about a year old, so TDK was already in production but I think somewhere in between the two movies is when he deciding he's preparing to calling it quits and that's what he was referring to in the interview above.

This interview seems odd. You almost get the feeling that Nolan and Oldman didn't want to be in the same room with this guy, i.e., the interviewer.

Gary Oldman didn't want to come back for The Dark Knight? Why? Is there an article talking about it?
![]() Ugh, I kind of regret reading that article. God damn Riddler...I would have wanted that to be a surprise

Try reading Four of A Kind. It deals with The Riddler's origins and is a great story.

Oldman... one of the greatest actors alive; to me you don't even know if he's acting or honest when he does an interview.
But enough with the jokes. Riddler would be great, and I don't see anyone else playing Gordon in BB3
