First off, I like this if Shyamalan keeps directing (at least) outside of this deal... I love his movies, with the exception of The Happening, wich I hated (I don't know what the hell happened there). I think is one of the greatest filmmakers right now, and while is wonderful that more of his ideas get the chance to become movies, I think it would be a great lost to keep him just producing.

This is for the best. The Happening could have been seriously better if he let someone else write the idea.
There was no helping The Village or Lady in the Water though. Not even Bryce Dallas Howard could save them, and everyone knows she's like the Jesus of Shyamalan's films.

This is a good thing. Shymalan is like George Lucas. He has great ideas, but he allows his ego to get in the way of his film making. Collaboration is a good way for him to go.

was Universal the one studio that publicly showed some interest in M. Night's new script with Bruce Willis?

While I have lost all love for Shyamalan, I'm not sure if this is the best move. Sure, after Airbender his name will drastically reduce in value, but for something like this I think it still might help. You hear about a low budget film called "Devil" released by a couple mostly no name directors, even the Shyamalan's tarnished brand will still bring some attention to this flick.
