Default Let the ACCLAIM BE KNOWN

Why have there been NO commercials harping on the rave reviews and financial success of this movie? There have been no television spots about the acclaim.

EX:
"For the second week The Dark Knight is the number one movie in America. 'A great achievement' says Michael Phillips from Ebert & Roeper."

^Stuff like that.

This movie is chasing immortality. It has SHATTERED box office records and is, according to Yahoo! Movies the first real threat to the all-time domestic box office record held by Titanic.

Promoting the film on its own success and acclaim is not cashing in on Heath Ledger in anyway- just because he is part of the acclaim doesn't mean he is being exploited.

I just remember that when Spider-man (2/3) were shattering/setting their records, they were on all commercials...and you know what? They kept making more money. Even Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest had television spots saying "See it again", etc... and they all went on to make insane money.

The Dark Knight, solely on word of mouth, magazines, and news programs has made it to the 13th highest grosser of all time and the 3rd best superhero grosser....why not give it that extra nudge?

Because it doesn't need it. People that aren't going to see the movie, won't suddenly be swayed by a quick commercial.

And TDK has had review spots. I saw at least 2 different ones before the movie premiered. Both had Peter Travers' glowing review, among others.

They don't need to...yet. A smart move, in my opinion, would be to do this next week, or the week after, so that those who didn't see it to avoid bigger crowds, or just slipped past them seeing it will go "yeah maybe I should see it" and what not.

Thing is though, I have yet to see a SINGLE The Dark Knight television spot since its opening. Seriously, in two weeks, and I do watch my share of television, I've seen not one The Dark Knight commercial, other than those God awful Dominos and Verizon commercials.

I was kind of surprised about that...

Iron man had a commercial talking about how the reviews all said the movie was a great film...which I imagine convinced some casual movie fans to go see it (in fact, that films amazing numbers seem to bear that out).

The Dark Knight should ride this wave out...and then around say...Oscar time...go into a new flurry of ads promoting its nominations (which had better include one for Best Supporting Actor)

Yeah, because like I know my parents just went to see this movie tonight. They are not people who would see this if they haven't heard RAVE reviews about the film from friends and family. Some people don't have friends and family that will be at a barbeque and say "did you see The Dark Knight? Well you should!" so if they hear it on a commercial coming from Peter Tavers, Michael Phillips, Richard Roper and Roger Ebert....maybe they'll go.

Yeah, but that won't be until the DVD has been released for well over a few months--but I wouldn't mind it.

When Ledger died...I saw no interviews from any of the cast talking about Heath which would in turn promote The Dark Knight...I applaud them for this and the fact I haven't seen many ads of late...Mad props!

they're better off saving $ on commercials when TDK isn't still breaking box office records...possibly in a week or two we might start seeing more commercials.

Like others have said; they don't need to. Word of mouth and the press the film has gotten is the best publicity you can get. And it's all been free. People have either seen the movie; will see it (for the first time or again); or never will. That last category isn't going to be swayed by any commercials discussing positive reviews they more than likely already saw or read about in the media.

and theres another one that was playing on tbs i think that starts with joker saying "You made it!" and then it says that The Dark Knight is #1 and all the reviews etc.

I guess I'm watching all the wrong channels, I don't think I've seen one TV spot for TDK yet. Crazy...

I've seen some. I'm surprised how little commertials I'm seeing overall. Most of the one's I see are on Comedy Central. Oh well, it looks like the movie doesn't really need them anyway.

To sway the mainstream, who has already decided not to see it, they need a REALLY good commercial, showing almost nothing but exclusive theater footage...

some more of the interrogation scene, some more of the fights, some more Joker stuff... but have it ALL never seen except for those who've seen the film.

I've seen one or two, but I haven't watched TV very much in the past few weeks.

I think it's clear by now that TDK is running almost solely on terrific word of mouth. A few more TV spots probably wouldn't make a dent in people telling everyone they know to see it.

Heck, I was at Jiffy Lube the other day and someone there was like, "Have you guys seen the new Batman movie?" The dude had seen it twice, and he didn't even know it was Ledger on screen when he went the first time. Repeat viewings are off the charts.

Everyone I know and talk to has seen it atleast twice, and theyre not even bat-fans either, just mainstream viewers.

Even though the word is out there on the street, that this is the movie of the year, I too wouldn't mind seeing some commercials promoting the movies incredible reviews, quotes and stuff! It deserves it, and I think it WOULD bring a small bunch back to the theater ones again, maybe even those who has held off seeing it for whatever reason.

The Dark Knight is the best, most solid movie I have ever seen! This type of movie is only seen every 20'th year or something! It's incedible, it truely is.
