Default Skins (New Drama Coming To BBC America)

Quote:
Skins is a BAFTA-winning British Dramady from Company Pictures, The series will make it's US première at 10pm (EST) on August 17th, despite the show not having aired in the US yet it already has a strong online fanbase.
Quote:
Skins revolves around the lives of a group of 16–19 year-old friends who live in Bristol. The Dawson Bros claim the series represents the everyday lives of adolescents. These characters attend the fictional Roundview Sixth Form College in Bristol. Each episode has a self-contained theme and focuses on each different character , however there are several story arcs that span different episodes. Accompanying the episode title at the beginning of each episode is a short few second montage of that episode's central character.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skins_%28TV_series%29

I couldn't find a decent plot summary so I copied the above from Wikipedia, this show has being going for 2 years now so I thought was about time it got a thread. Despite this show sounding like just another teen drama it is a surprisingly good show, however if you're over 30 this definitly has to be guilty pleasure viewing.

I'm a bit disappointed with what they're doing with the third season...
I'm gonna miss Maxxie like crazy.

You mean the entirely new cast of characters? I'm going to miss Sid.

The show has been criticized for being an over-drugged, over-sexed unrealistic portrayal of contemporary teenage life. I was fine with it. While the situations and lifestyles may be exaggerated and somewhat hyper-stylized, the character interactions and growth were organic enough. I enjoyed the melodrama, the comedy, and the supplementary actors (Bill Bailey and Mark Heap show up in season 2!)

Plus the play they put on was awesome.

It has its fair share of detractors.

I've just watcjed Human Traffic for the first time and have any of you (who've seen HT obviously) noticed how similar Chris is to Jip, it's almost plagiarism LOL. Oh and Speedy don't worry Mitch Hewer has confirmed he will make a cameo in the next series.

Yes, a lot more adult than Degrassi, Skins has graphic sex scenes, nudity, violence, drug abuse, profanity and a few deaths along the way too.

There is a good chance it will be censored to some extent, but with a bit of luck it shouldn't be anything too major because it's airing on BBCA, although I still think it would of been kept in tact a lot better on either HBO or Showtime.

I like Carrie, the skinny blonde flaky girl with the eating disorder. She's like a much more f'ed-up version of Luna Lovegood.

...Except me. The actress that portrays her is actually the worst actress I've ever seen. Ed Wood wouldnt cast this girl.

Cassie, Carrie, whatev...

I did take pride in the fact that I recognized the nerdy little kid from the movie About a Boy right away, even though he's cool and studly now. His Vulcan eyebrows gave him away.

Personally, I don't think Skins is that great. Certainly not as far as scripting and plot are concerned. Storylines jump from episode to episode with developments suddenly coming out of the blue with little to no foreshadowing (e.g. the thing with Sid's dad in series 2). Sure, they attempted at better continuity in series two, with the whole Tony-Michelle-Sid-Cassie thing but it grew boring really quickly.

Indeed, series two suffered greatly since it didn't have the 'fresh' appeal that series one survived on. I think a part of it stemmed from the writers not knowing what to do with the characters (all caricature stereotypes) and simply jumped from story to story with no clear idea what direction those characters were going to take.

Edit for spoilers, only a couple of episodes from the first series have aired in the U.S yet.

Oops, my bad. I didn't know that the majority hadn't seen it yet. I've edited my part. Now, we need to fix yours (the part where my post was quoted).

Done and just reading on the official website, they've picked the new cast and they've started filming series 3, but can't release any info on the cast until January.
