I believe we already had WWIII, that would have been the Cold War. It took place between 2 major sides, Vietnam, Korea, Cuba, etc, were all battle grounds for it. And it was fought all over the world. Now, mose people wouldn't say it was a world war because it didn't have unified Front. But, you are never going to see a unified front in war anymore. It's never going to be Trench Warfare or Boundaries like WWI and WWII. It's going to be hot spot and regions, all over an Ideology.

I will be called crazy or stupid or whatever by all the Left-wing Yah-hoos on this forum, but I think we are in WWIV, the war against Radical Fundilmentalism. We got hit in many places before 9/11, but 9/11 was our Pearl Harbor. We didn't fight for French Indendance until After Pearl Harbor, and we made a push to fight all the way to Germany. It's funny the Parallels: we got hit in Pearl Harbor, by Imperial Japanesse, but we fought a front in Europe, but Nazi's didn't attack us, why did we go there? Just like we weren't attacked in 9/11 by Iraq, but why are we there?

You're right - you are crazy. Your definition of what constitutes a World War is pretty loose.

A World War consitutes most of the major nations of the world being involved in a single war. This clearly is not the case today. The USA, UK, and various smaller nations are involved in conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Entirely seperately, Israel and Palestine have an ongoing conflict that's been happening for a long time. And entirely seperately, Russia is having a conflict with Georgia.

The Chinese aren't involved in any of these conflicts. Russia is not at war with any major European nations. Japan is not at war. Iraq is a small nation. There is no world war.

people are just paranoid... and personally do any other countries stick there noses in other peoples business like we do? seems like we always try to play mom and dad.. and then the other countries (UK, france, etc..) come play too. im all for helping other countries out.. but sometimes it truly isn't our business. I personally think we are fine, if we should be scared of anyone, it should be North Korea...

I'm not sure about your choices......fundamentally, "WE" the US, on our soil are basically safe from Russia.

This is a far more complicated issue than, no we aren't safe, yes we are safe.

Do I believe this is leading to WWIII? No, not in any form or fashion. Russia DOES NOT want a third world war. They do, however, want to move back to there sphere of influence they had before the iron curtain fell, or at least, have a considerable amount of influence on Eastern European countries.

These countries, however, do not want that influence, except for the 2 territories in Georgia. It has been made clear by the US, and other European nations, and nations of NATO, that this is soverign Georgian land, and Russia has no claim to it whatsoever.

Will this lead to another war? No....but will the western world allow Putin to lead Russia back to the influence of Eastern Europe that it had in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's? Definitely not....

Back to a Cold War mentality, maybe.....

The US and NATO, are definitely re-evaluating their relationship with Russia.

Just because some countries are fighting, doesn't mean that there will be a World War. If I were you,I would be..alarmed. Your army is basically broken, when you really need it..it won't be there.

This is why China and Russia are less concerned with America than before Bush.

The US military is far from broken and I'd like to see one shred of evidence to support that claim. The world view of the US is broken, its reputation in many circles, absolutely. But in terms of strength the US military is still the most advanced and ready in the world. We just use it very badly.

This isn't the start of WW3, russia knows the consequences of such an undertaking. Look at WW2 for an example of what a production based country with military resources and two oceans as natural obstacles to guard against foreign intrusion can do when it puts all its efforts into something. Russia understands what would happen if the "kid gloves" come off. And no, it doesn't mean the end of the world, just large holes in most of europe and asia, which would suck.

I used to think that until I did some research. There is always some form of war going on in the world. The Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, they were all merely skirmishes compared to a World War.

A World War, in my opinion is a war that is too large for us too fathom right now for we have not been in one. Given what entailed WWII(Nazi's, concentration camps, Pearl Harbor, the atomic bomb) - WWIII would be even worse. It's hard to believe a war more atrocious than one that perpetrates a Holocaust and Atomic bombs but that is what WWIII will be.

It is my fear that this WWIII can only result in massive nuclear attacks. If Russia were to nuke Poland then the results would be disasterous for the rest of the world would have no choice but to obliterate Russia. The consequences on the rest of the planet from nuclear fallout and whatever else would be catastrophic. The global population would likely be reduced by 1/3 and possibley even cut in half. Given the mass hysteria that would come with such an event the World Government(U.N.) would have to undertake extreme 'peace keeping measures.' These measures would be labeled as peace keeping but really just another form of the Gestapo. National I.D. cards, possibly even microchip implants, would be mandatory similar to the Nazi requirements for all to have proper papers or risk being sent to a concentration camp.

I find it ironic how many people are feeling paranoid when Russia invaded South Osseita and making sure their neighbors arent going to allow missiles and an anti missile shield on countries next to them. People in the USA are gettin paranoid for this only, but i think the world has been paranoid for years since the USA invaded Iraq. If there is a World War 3 the USA will be in the middle

Oh man....WWIII talk now...

Whoever said the US military is broken is extremely misled.
The US military is a little stretched thin maybe...
But we only have a shadow of a military as far as bodies, that we had 20 years ago, thanks to a few people.

Our air force alone could do enormous damage within minutes........long before anyone even realized they were hit.

No, the US army is not broken.......

but that post did make me chuckle.

True, they may only be 100,000 but they are VERY well organized. Their numbers are still greater than any other organization in the U.S.. That's not including reserves, retirees, and veterans who would pledge their allegiance to them if necessary.

We are such a global economy I just don't buy it. People starting a world war 3 better find a way to win it because they would just destroy themselves in the process if not physically, economically.

Why do you people think that the group that can/will/maybe/could start WWIII have strong, intelligent, knowledgeable, coherent heads on their shoulders???????????????

Some of ya'll act like a country will have a referendum from its people before it goes to war......

Now, do I think this Georgian conflict will end up in a WWIII......????? No......

But do I think a WW III is possible from anywhere in the world....????? yeah........ keep an eye on the "stans".........they have nukes....

I just think with us being in a nuclear age for a world war no one will have the balls to push the button. Instead it will be more of a political war, like someone stated earlier with the Cold War. I think too many countries are tied into each other, and are not out to blow each other up anymore as much as they are to get one up on them on the world stage and pull stunts like the Georgia conflict, and the Defense missiles.
