In the original Variety article GDT said that Universal is waiting HBII to finish its wolrdwide run (and possibly the dvd sales?) to make their mind on HBIII.

^Hey MG, you normally know a little bit more than most of us, honestly, what are the chances of HBIII happening at this point?

It doesn't worry me that he's doing other stuff right now.. I mean, there was a 4 year gap between the two. He said he'd be getting back to Hellboy when Perlman was in his sixties... I'm betting on HBIII coming out 2012 or 2013.
I just wonder who the villain will be. Rasputin back or Hecate maybe?

I worry that we may never see HB3, but i'll keep my hopes high. Del Toro and the cast have constantly said that they just love the world of HB so hopefully we will get a third.

^I still cant believe Universal has pulled it from cinema's, it was making more than Iron Man on a daily basis, yet HBII was pulled and Iron Man is still in there. What abouts its run in the dollar theatre's also?

It's always seemed weird to me how big the gap in releases is for movies worldwide. I mean, it came out in July here, but not until January in Japan?

Why does Perlman need to be in his sixties, I wonder.
For a director with del Toro's interests, HB does seem like the perfect playground. Just look at Pan's Labyrinth. The two could almost exist in the same universe, creature-wise.

Del Toro could always become the producer...
I wouldn't be opposed to a new director... I think.

^I would and i wouldnt. With GDT, you know its going to be a quality movie, were as with another director, that isnt a guarantee. But another director would possibly bring in characters like Roger, who GDT wasnt willing to bring in. So there would be some plus points to a new director.
We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Mmm. I think del Toro is one of those rare kinds of directors who does what they want, though. And I believe I recall him referring to Hellboy as something like a labor of love, or something along those lines, on account that he's such a big Mike Mignola fan. And so I bet he'll do another Hellboy at some point in time.
Figure people were antsy about Hellboy 2, because he went ahead with Pan's Labyrinth--and so I'm betting it's the same kind of deal. And hey, if he makes more movies like Pan's Labyrinth, then I'm all for waiting for another Hellboy. Was a top-notch film, I mean. And so it's not nearly as depressing as it would have been if he wasted his time working on something craptastic before the next Hellboy. And so I'm all for giving him his space and seeing what he comes up with next. |
