Default Best live-action Superman tv series?

Over the years, there has been four live action Superman series: The Adventures of Superman in the 1950s, Superboy in the late 80s, Lois and Clark in the early 90s and Smallville today.

I'd say my favorite would be Smallville. I think that, while the show does have its flaws, overall it is a great re-interpretation of the Superman mythos. I mean, the show has given us: Brainiac, Bizarro, The Phantom Zone, Supergirl, JLA, and many other key pieces of the Superman mythos and the DC Universe.
While I'm sure The Adventures of Superman was great to many people, its quite a bit before my time. Lois and Clark, from what I've seen and heard wasnt all that great. And I've not heard a whole lot about Superboy.

What do you guys think?

Haven't seen the Adventures of Superman and Superboy. Lois & Clark was fun, because I thought the characterization was quite good, but there was a lack of actual Super-villains. And the few that appeared were honestly lame. And many stories weren't that great either.

So, between Lois & Clark and Smallville, I'd would have to say I prefer Smallville. It'd be great if they could make another series like Lois & Clark, but with actual super villains like in Smallville and some good special effects.

Smallville isnt a horrible joke. Sure, it hasnt been as good as it used to be for the past few seasons, but I think its pretty good...

I'd vote for the 1950's Adventuires of Superman too. By default.

Lois & Clark was boring and unimpressive.
Superboy was awful.
And I just could watch 1 episode and a half of Smallville before deciding never waste my time again with it. if it got better after that I don't know.

Hands down "The Adventures of Superman", and may I add.......it should be the template for a "reboot".

To those Superman "fans" who have never seen it ........... shame on you.

I'll have to go with "The Adventures of Superman" as well.

Infact, I made it a point to purchase each season of the George Reeves series as they were released, and have now had the complete series for close to two years now. "Lois & Clark" started off decent, but I eventually found myself less and less interested in the show. Despite it having the best live action Lois Lane to date, IMO.

Smallville? Just never been a fan of the show, and have only watched maybe a few episodes at best.

LOL

He was great as Clark and he seems like an extrenely likeable guy, but he is just too babyfaced for Superman.

Ditto.

IMO, there is nothing great about the interpretation of the mythos in Smallville......far from it. That show jumped the shark long ago. It has it's moments, but it's so full of gimmicks, absurd storytelling, lack of coherence and very poor character development that it's more like a bizarro world to me. They made a mistake when they started dragging the show.

I'd probably have to go with The Adventures Of Superman myself as well. Though it's still pretty lacking - as all live-action Superman TV series have been, frankly - the chemistry and energy of the cast still holds up after 50 years, and there's plenty of action to go around even under the most absurd circumstances.

Lois and Clark simply because of the picture of Teri Hatcher and the cape

Really, there are things about all of them that were great and things about all of them that were terrible.

There just isn't one 'best' among them. They all had a peice of it.

Lois & Clark had the best Lois and the best adult Clark with great overall casting of the supporting characters. Adventures of Superman had the best Superman. Smallville has the best depth for the character (topping that is the best small screen Luthor) and more intriguing stories. The Superboy series from the 80's had a few interesting things here and there such as Ron Ely as a future Superman.

And, having said that, I'm sure you all know the bad things from each. Lois & Clark had a lot of campy villains. The Adventure of Superman got pretty silly with pirates on a desert island and the like. Smallville has strayed so far from source that it can never grow up to be Superman as we know it. Last, the Superboy series tended to be very dull.

The Adventures Of Superman hands down the best.

I don't understand how Smallville, for a television show that is about pre-Metropolis Clark Kent, is currently running at 8 seasons. The mythos is being tampered with too much for my liking. (I mean, Lois Lane? In Smallville??) It would make sense for a miniseries, but I don't know. Its run it's coarse.

What he said.

- Season 1 - 3
- Chemistry between Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain
- Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane
- Dean Cain's Clark Kent
- John Shea's Lex Luthor
- Lane Smith's Perry White

Didn't like the recast of Jimmy Olsen (although neither Michael Landes nor Justin Whalin did anything for me)

Really?

For me, Justin Whalin was the best televison live action Jimmy. He only lacked the red hair to make him perfect. He was a modern Jimmy. Too often people want to throw back to Jack Larson - completely forgetting that Larson's interpretation was based on what common presentation in mainstream entertainment (back then) showed young adults of that age to be. It doesn't fly today. The character has to fit the times otherwise he is a nerdy joke.

Well, like I said. Neither really did anything for me. I can't complain

Lane Smith is however, the best live action Perry White...evar.

Well, what I like about Smallville is that they expand the universe by bringing in people like Black Canary and Green Arrow. Lois And Clark's first season was good but the rest was horrible. And I haven't seen Superboy or Adventures of Superman.

I wouldn't say the rest was horrible, perhaps just the last half of season 3 and onward.

Cant speak on Adventures of Superman have only seen clips of and Superman and the Mole Men movie (which I did quite enjoy) but for me its Smallville, my favourite TV show of all-time and I thoroughly enjoy it. I really like the Superboy show too, first 2 seasons were pretty poor but seasons 3 and 4 were awesome, some great episodes, a little dated now but definitely a close second to Smallville. Lois & Clark was just garbage.

I never could bring myself to be a fan of Lois & Clark.

I'll choose The Adventures of Superman, with Smallville as second.
