According to the trades Universal Pictures is moving ahead with its fourth installment of "The Bourne Identity" series, setting George Nolfi to write the script. Nolfi was co-writer of the third film, which was based on a story by Tony Gilroy. Though the series is based on the Robert Ludlum novels, the new film won't be based on a Ludlum title, but rather an original story. Studio toppers Marc Shmuger, David Linde and Donna Langley are making the continuation of the Bourne franchise a top priority in their effort to mount tentpoles, and they've secured director Paul Greengrass and star Matt Damon to attach themselves to a new film Pic will be produced by Frank Marshall and exec produced by Jeffrey Weiner and Henry Morrison. The studio intended to stop at the third installment, but the film grossed $227 million domestically and $215 million overseas.

I wonder if they'll use any of the titles of the newer bourne books or make up their own. Also I hope Gilroy is still involved in some capacity.

I'm all for a fourth Bourne. I have confidence that the story will be up to snuff so long as Damon is involved.

Bourne movies have no story.
What do we learn a few scenes into the first movie? He was a government agent trained to kill. What's the big reveal at the end of the third? He was a government agent trainde to kill. Blew my mind. But the kids love it. |

I hope Greengrass gets his parkinsons fixed before taking on another Bourne. I wouldn't mind Gilroy stepping behind the camera this time.

Don't really see this as being a good idea. The character's arc was wrapped up in Ultimatum. How would it progress?

I'm conflicted over the idea of a fourth Bourne movie. On the one hand I feel Ulitmatum wrapped everything up perfectly and they should not ruin an awesome trilogy with an unnecessary fourth. On the other hand, I'd love to see some more Bourne action.

This sounds like good news to me, especially with Damon and Greengrass on board. I'd also like to see Joan Allen or Julia Stiles return, so there's another connection with the first three (other than Bourne himself).
As for the story, I'm really hoping they'll use a few of Eric van Lustbader's ideas from "The Bourne Legacy" or "The Bourne Betrayal". Even if the new film isn't a direct adaptation, it'd be cool to see a few references from those books. P.S.: My "inner fanboy" would love to see them somehow bring in Carlos the Jackal, but I don't see how it would work at this point. |

No fourth film! The ending was freaking perfect for Bourne Ultimatum.

Next Bourne Based on The Parsifal Mosaic? Source: Silas Lesnick December 7, 2008 Producer Frank Marshall revealed today at The Curious Case of Benjamin Button where the next "Bourne" adventure might be headed, citing one of Robert Ludlum's books, "The Parsifal Mosiac" as potential source material. Q: What's happening with "Bourne" now that you have access to the Robert Ludlum library? Frank Marshall: Well, that's the good news. We now have access to all the Ludlum story ideas. We're going to make the fourth movie from them. Q: And Matt's signed on? Marshall: No, the only people signed on right now is George Nolfi, the writer, and me. We have to get a good script and then, hopefully, Matt will follow. Q: Would this come at all from the new book, "The Bourne Betrayal"? Marshall: No, the "Bourne Betrayal" was written by a friend of Ludlum's.... It had nothing to do with us.... We want to stay true to the original character. Q: Any ideas for a "Bourne" title? Marshall: Well, there's a lot of jokes. "Bourne Again," "Bourne Yesterday," "Bourne Free," "Bourne on the Fourth." I actually want to do that. Call it that and release the movie on the fourth. Q: Would you want to do a straight adaptation from one of the novels? Marshall: Actually, there is. "The Parsifal Mosiac" is one that we like. "The Parsifal Mosiac," not a "Bourne" adventure as a novel, deals with a U.S. spy who falls in love with another spy who is revealed to be a double agent just before her death. When he retires from the business, though, the spy learns that she may still be alive and sets out to learn the truth.

The fourth film will be titled "The Bourne Redudency", and will involve a cross-over plot with Jason Bourne vs. James Bond vs. Jason Statham's "Transporter" character. It will be directed by Uwe Boll.

If they come up with a good story, than why the hell not. I don't see any reason why the series should be limited to only one story arc. I like the idea of seeing a completely self aware Bourne who has accepted who he is and can focus his attention on other things. As long as he doesn't start working for the CIA and remains independent, there's great potential for something new.

After reading the synopsis on Wikipedia, the general plot of The Parsifal Mosaic could work. Especially if they were to plug Julia Stiles' Nicky into the female double agent role. However, it also could come off as a somewhat of a rip-off of Casino Royale if done poorly.

Don't freaking do another one. It will ruin the one of the best endings of all time and the best third film of all time. When the hell was the last time all three films were great?

Hey I already started this thread. Time for a merge. Doctor Jones. Try telling that to Hollywood. You are telling them to stop after the last movie made almost half a billion dollars worldwide? This is basically a billion dollar franchise for Universal. They aren't going to just stop. Greengrass and Damon have basically said they'd be open to do more. And if either left, then bing bang boom they get a new director and they would replace Damon, just as Sean Connery was replaced as Bond.
