Hey all I just wanted to take some time to talk about Hanna-Barbarra properties that could make kickass comics. I loved the Space Ghost mini and I'm still hoping for that sequel they promised, but I'd also love to see my favorite of their heroes, Birdman.
![]() ![]() Any other good heroes?

This doesn't belong on the DC Boards. Check out the Misc. Comics boards.

But I'm pretty sure DC owns the rights right now.

WB owns Hanna-Barbarra, and DC comics. DC released Space ghost. Heck they even had a johnny Quest comic planned.

DC also published a 6 issue SPACE GHOST mini-series in 2004, written by Joe Kelly with art by Ariel Olivetti (with Alex Ross covers). It offered a more modern take on his origin as a straight-forward caped cosmic cop. An "ultimate" or "all-star" Space Ghost, if you will.
![]() It was collected into trade in 2005, but may be out of print. A sequel was announced but has not happened. For all we know, he could show up in FINAL CRISIS or some later crisis. ![]() It was actually good, and I enjoyed it. Space Ghost hopped around a few comic companies but currently is under rights to DC, which is attached to WB and Hanna-Barbera. Last edited by Dread; 09-24-2008 at 07:03 PM. |

Space Ghost could be done interestingly as an interactor with Green Lantern or something.

It took itself too seriously I feel. I mean, the guy is a late night talk show host.

Yea the 2004 series was amazing. It'd be really interesting to see him brought into the canon DCU. He'd work well with the GL Corps and Adam Strange, but I still desperately want my sequel and a Birdman comic.

I still don't know about that mini. I mean, it was interestingly done, but is that really who we want Space Ghost to be? Do we want to do this to yet another lighthearted and fun character? I'm not sure we do, or maybe I'm not sure we should.

Yeah, they took this fun character and put him in this story with this dark background and gave him a tragic origin. I dunno. The story was good, but why Space Ghost?

It's sort of a statement, I guess. There just is not room for lightheartedness in today's culture, I guess. Unless it's something unconsumable like Veggie Tales or some other faux-Christian ********.

It wasn't so much that they gave him a dark origin but that they gave him a good origin and a good reason for doing what he was doing. It also helped fit the name.

I had heard, after the Space Ghost series all those years ago, that DC was planning a Johnny Quest comic.
I would love to see a sequel to the Space Ghost comic too. Maybe staring Moltar or Brack. Characters they could choose from: ![]() Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

Bah, Shazzan is the obvious choice! Confuse the readers with similarly named and completely unrelated characters. That's the way to go!

Venture Bros made Johnny Quest pretty much untouchable, by pointing out how ****ed up a childhood like that would be.
But I liked the Space Ghost mini, especially, because a tragic serious story with silly SPACE GHOST is hilarious. It's almost like a parody of the dark and gritty reboots. More of those could be fun. (I still say a deadly serious, jokeless Austin Begins, with a cannibal Fat Bastard and Vin Diesel played Dr. Evil is the way to continue the Austin Powers franchise, to spoof Casino Royale and The Dark Knight. The only joke is how seriously it takes the silly material.)

I'd flat out adore a Johnny Quest comic.
