Smith's performance made the first film, so the only way this could work is to bring in a talented actor of Smith's caliber to play as compelling a character (though it was mainly due to Smith's performance).

A prequel? This is going to take place before the first one? So all we're gonna see is Neville in a lab with other people trying to prevent it?

This movie was entertaing but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And it was also too short. I wished they had've kept it closer to the book because the book is better. But since they're planning on making a sequel or prequel I guess they can make this one better.

Are talking about the original ending in the movie where Nevile lived? It wasn't closer to the book. In the book Nevile took the pile and killed himself.

it's one thing to stray from the book, in which the movie does, then make a sequel to make a franchise out it is too much for me. Samething with 'Wanted'.

Does a sequel necessarily have to have Will Smith? Why not a former military colleague of his and have Will Smith appear in flashbacks?
It could be a good chance to make up for the godawful CGI.

Eh I wont say that. *Cough*Hydraulx*cough*. It depends on the direction. If they've got a pedantic perfectionist with rage issues you get Solaris, LOTR and X-Men 2, it with the typical studio directors you get The Mummy 3, X-Men 3 type dodgy SFX from those guys.

It would crack me up if they stuck with the first movies alternate ending and went on from there. Will Smith sucks at picking summer movies.

Didn't Sony Imageworks do SM2? I thought SM2 has still one of the best CGI ever.

So I just got done watching the alternative version of the film. And I liked the alternative ending instead. Whoever decided to use the ending they put with the one in theaters is I don't know what to say.

The movie still sucked compared to the book though...well the movie sucked altogether. I think Will Smith should give up on this. This is a terrible idea to do a sequel or prequel to this. But I agree the other ending makes more sense but still it doesn't have the feel as the book does of Neville being feared by the vampires. It does have the new race of man feel though.

A prequel is the only way they could get Smith back involved and WB know its the only way the movie will make any money, THATS why they are doing a prequel rather than a sequel. But who knows, it could be good, I enjoyed the first movie, thought the acting in it was superb, and 50% of the effects were as well.

A prequel makes sense, as most of the material not in the film was before the incident. A sequel makes very little sense.
