I love them all, Forever and "& Robin" are on the lower part of my list. My top would be TDK. Then it's a tie between MOTP and '89, then Returns.

The thread asked what films we CURRENTLY liked. I certainly enjoyed B89 when I was 10 and never really liked Batman Returns, Forever or B & R. I appreciate BR a lot more today as a Burton, not Batman, film.

I appreciate the memories of enjoying B89 as a kid but haven't enjoyed any of the Burton films since the animated series demonstrated just how far off the mark these films were. Today, I like to imagine B89 and Returns as "what if" films like Superman: Red Son. What if the Joker was a chubby, wealthy gangster who killed Bruce's parents? What if Batman was so reclusive that he never even developed a relationship with Gordon and was willing to murder?

Interesting idea to explore but not really what I consider to be proper Batman story. I don't really want to turn this thread into a Nolan vs. Burton debate though. They are just how I feel about the films personally and not meant to change what other people feel.

Honestly, I've pointed out the flaws & inconsistencies in Burton's film several times but got viciously attacked by a great many Bat-fans who can't take the slightest critique of their beloved films, while they show no hesitation in dumping all over mine. That said, apart from the opening scene (riddled with non sequiturs & just a general lack of purpose for Batman), the scene in Vicki's apartment (which served only to establish Joker as the killer of Bruce's parents-another move I didn't agree with) and Batman having no compunction about killing whatsoever, I enjoyed the film greatly, mainly for its imagery & the performances. It was a nice way to introduce us to the Dark Knight, which we hadn't really seen up until then. Bearing in mind also that Burton has publicly stated that he would never read a comic book, we have to be somewhat tolerant of his missing the mark.

Yes, good points. I respect B89 and believe it was an important stepping stone to get the proper Batman films we see today. Before B89, there were no dark superheroes in popular film. Heroes were heroes. They didn't have baggage and murder. But Burton didn't introduce the "Dark Knight". He just made it accessible on film which I appreciate and respect. But ultimately, the film just doesn't work for me at all anymore.

The two Burton films and the two Nolan films, each with the sequal (Returns and TDK, respectively) being vastly superior to the predecessor, IMO. I can't really say that I like Forever nowadays.. sometimes I still get the urge to watch it now and then, but I was only actually in love with it when I was a kid. Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker are also huge favorites of mine.
