This is what took place Friday night when I went to see Soul Men with a couple people...cashier at the theatre gave me the price of 8.00 for the ticket..I promptly gave the dude a 20...then he gives me back two dollars. I'm like, "how much was that ticket again?" "8 bucks." "OK, but I gave you a twenty, man." "No, I don't think you did." "Look in your drawer, I just gave it to you like 4 seconds ago." "That was a 10 you gave me." This goes on for a couple minutes, then the manager comes by and says, "sir, are you certain it was a 20 dollar bill?" And I say, yes it was...it even has a tear on the right corner, which I told the kid of before. He checks the drawer, and gives me the correct change.
![]() ![]() I always hate giving large bills to cashiers, because they can say whatever they want...it's like a ****ing Seinfeld episode.

How was Soul Men though? I'd like to see Bernie in his final role.

you have to get them to balance the register. If you did give them a 20 and they gave you change for a ten, there should be 10 extra bucks than what the receipts say.

On the flip side they area trained not to hand out cash in such disputes. It was obviously the cashiers fault, but most places have a policy that they have to call a manager in such situations. There are people who will lie, and there are short change artists and other scammers they have to watch out for.

You should have given him a 10. Or a 5 and three 1s.

What? It's not like I said "You should have given him 26 quarters, 9 dimes, and 12 nickles".

The dude can use a $20 bill if he wants too. It's not like he's gonna give him a 10 just to make it easier for him, the cashier should just stop being a dumbass.

having worked registers before, this happens and its an honest mistake. and they cant just give you 10 bucks back based on your word, especially when they think otherwise of the situation. i've had people before who have made this claim, honestly believing it to be true, and it turns out they were wrong, if i had taken them at their word my drawer woulda been short which equals a pissed off manager asking me for money.
best thing to do is to just ask for the manager to balance the drawer, as mentioned above. but its an honest mistake that happens from time to time. getting pissed about it does nothing.

Thought the cashier should have mentioned 'out of ten' or 'out of twenty' before he put the bill into the drawer. I always do this, and I have never shortchanged anyone.

yeah, i understand. which is why im saying its pointless to sit there with the register jockey going back and forth saying 'yes i did' 'no you didnt', because they cant really do much about it. just ask for a manager and they'll take care of it.

OK, as customers, you guys can answer this. I was working on the tills the other day, and some loud mouthed, chavvy women came in, bought clothes, didnt even acknowledge my existence, I wasnt too bothered about that, it happens all the time. But then, I needed to give her £5 change, but I only had 50p's. So I went to go give her the change in 50p's, and she started really shouting at me. Like, really having a go at me. I told her there was nothing I could do, but she continued to disrupt the store, so eventually another colleague came and served another customer on another till, and took the change from that till and we balanced it out later. She eventually left in quite a shouty way. What do you think I should of done in that situation?

To be honest however, most movie theater employees are teenagers and most teenagers these days aren't very bright.

He was a teenager. He looked like a cross between Beck and Al Franken.

I work at a movie theatre and have had a not so bright girl next to me in box office have that sort of problem. They did end up cashing the register out and I can't remember if it was short or over. They keep track of everyones over/short percentages, so they usually end up weeding those people off of the registers. I'm sure it's the same for any establishment that involves buying things.

That happened to me at a bar once. Didn't bother trying to argue, just stole one of the pictures they had on the wall, figure it was worth the ten or fifteen dollars I lost.
