I'm running Vista. A few days ago, my computer started doing this thing where the monitor will randomly go to sleep and won't wake back up, yet the computer will continue to run. Turning the monitor off and on and even unplugging it and replugging it just results in the "No Video Signal" message on the screen. I checked my VGA connection at the monitor and where it connects to the video card, and both seem fine.
I'm running a GeForce 8500 GT. I think it might be the video card. About the same time it started to act up, Vista installed driver updates for the card. Any suggestions what to do? Reinstall drivers? Or is it something other than the video card? |

The very first things I'd check are:
test comp on another monitor test monitor on another comp test with different cable

Bingo. I borrowed my neighbor's cable and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion.
