Funnilly enough, following on from the above post, I Googled '2000AD animated series' and got this:-
http://www.cool****e.net/tv/2009/10/...riors-trailer/ EDIT - I've just learned that the link will only take you to a dead page, because the url has a word in it that the damn hype censor has replaced with four ****'s. ffs!!! Go to the Google search engine, type in '2000AD animated series' and it's the 4th result down. EDIT: It's ok, it's on Youtube too:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJOphc0BD3w Damn cool animation and done in the perfect style that encapsultes the look and feel of the 2000AD world. So it looks like we are no closer to a JD film does it, another false dawn I suppose, I just refuse to get my hopes up anymore.

Finally some news on this and a director!!
After seeing Kick-Ass, I got thinking that a Judge Dredd film could very well work by applying the same formula of humor and ultra-violence. I do hope, though, that if the film gets made, the producers won't have a problem getting a distributor(an American one, specifically) like Solomon Kane is still having. |

Even with a director being announced, I still dont think this film will see the light of day.

I agree - Mega City One probably has more chance of becoming reality.
Simon Pegg, where are you when we need you?

Judge Dredd to Start Filming this Fall Source: Reliance BIG Pictures, IM Global May 13, 2010 Earlier this week, it was announced that a 3D adaptation of Judge Dredd is moving ahead. We now have the official press release, which includes more information regarding the production: Reliance BIG Pictures, together with IM Global, the international sales company that Reliance acquired only last week, will finance DNA’s 3D production of JUDGE DREDD, a $45 million film adaptation of the iconic 2000 AD comic-book character created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. Filming will take place over the fourth quarter of 2010 in Johannesburg. JUDGE DREDD is being made by the writer/producer partnership behind The Beach, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Sunshine, and Never Let Me Go. Alex Garland, Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich will produce a script written by Garland. Pete Travis, director of Omagh, Vantage Point, and Endgame will direct. Wagner will be a creative consultant on the film. DNA has engaged Michael Murphy (District 9) as South African co-producer. Jason Kingsley and Chris Kingsley, owners of Rebellion/2000 AD, will co-produce. Said John Wagner: 'Alex Garland’s script is faithful to the original concept that made Judge Dredd a favourite bad-ass hero. It’s a high-octane slay ride through the dark underbelly of the vast future city. A fan pleaser. With their track record, I have every faith in Alex Garland, Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.' Said Alex Garland: 'I grew up reading Judge Dredd. The incredible writers and artists of 2000 AD were formative influences on me. Andrew, Allon and I have developed this adaptation of Judge Dredd with an emphasis on adrenaline and realism, but with all the scale and spectacle of Mega-City One. We think Pete’s propulsive, edgy style is a perfect match for the project.' The deal was negotiated on behalf of Reliance by IM Global CEO Stuart Ford assisted by attorneys Strook and Strook with DNA principals Macdonald and Reich, DNA head of business affairs Jo Smith, and Miles Ketley of Wiggin & Co. Ford’s IM Global will handle international sales on the project.

Bet you it runs out of funding half way through filming. Ooops, did I say that out loud? ![]() Quote:
Hmm, not bad; looks a lot like Bolland and Robinson's Dredd.

On who will play Dredd, I think we should all try and keep as much an open mind as possible. We all have our personal preferances, but for all we know, we might get a very "dark horse" decision.
Everyone had their personal preferance in who should play "Conan"(from Kevin Durand, Gerard Butler, Dwayne Johnson, Tyler Mane, to Ray Stevenson), but hardly anyone had considered the dreadlocked-sporting and seemingly slim Jason Momoa from Stargate:Atlantis. So many were up in arms at first, but now with the recent production stills, everyone is in awe at how awesome he looks as Conan. We'll see what we get with Judge Dredd. It might be a "fan-favorite" casting like Adam Baldwin, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Josh Brolin, Ron Perlman, or Ray Stevenson; it might be a "coventional" casting choice like Gerard Butler, Viggo Mortensern, Jason Statham, or Vin Diesel; or it could be a kinda' "curve-throw" casting like Mark Strong, Michael Fassbender, Benicio Del Toro, or Colin Farrell. Whoever it is, let's try not to get "tightly" attached to our favorite choices or our pre-concieved ideas. |

This better not mean they're not going to include the Dark Judges in favor of realism.

I've been thinking, assuming this film does proceed as planned, that a very strong factor that Judge Dredd just might benefit from, or at least not do worse, at the box office, is that it will beat Darren Aronofsky's Robocop film to get made and released(assuming it will not have a hard time finding an American distributor).
This is a little bit of a relief, imo. That was a bit of a concern to me, since there are still many inept people out there who think Judge Dredd is an imitation of Robocop, when it's really the other way around. Last edited by rogue trooper; 05-14-2010 at 06:55 PM. |

I'm still rooting for Adam Baldwin or Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Dredd.

I may be being impatient, but the lack of news following the announcement of this going into production again has me skeptical.

Just chanced upon this:-
http://io9.com/5491905/10-2000ad-cha...ld-rule-cinema It's Dredd related but more about the potential of 2000AD in general as an untapped source of cinematic entertainment. Makes for a good read.

Maybe I'm the only one who thought Sly's Judge Dredd movie wasn't bad. I mean look at those times back then there weren't any good comic adaptions beside Batman and Superman. Every other comic adaption at that time were considered flops after the first week. I guess know one knew how to write a good comic adaption at the time. They were all bad but I watched them regardless.

^^The good comic book adaptations from the 90's were "The Rocketeer", "The Crow", "The Mask", "Timecop", "Men In Black", and "Blade". Those were, for the most part, solid adaptations. "Judge Dredd" should have turned out like those. I'll never understand how they screwed it up.
