^I'm not a big specialist in Bollywood movies, not my cup of (Darjeeling) tea, and I actually don't really care if they remake 20.0000 leagues, I'm good with the James Mason/Kirk Douglas version and Jules Verne novel, indian actor or non-indian actor as Nemo. Also I thought that the dude from LXG lacked a bit in the charisma department, granted he was not helped by a ridiculous outfit that made him look like someone handing flyers outside an indian restaurant. No, the classics, I'd really like to see get revisited are (speaking of LXG) Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde and like I said before Moby Dick.

Granted LXG not the best adaptation...but Nemo looked exactly like the comic version and I thought was one of the better things about that movie.

The Rock as Nemo?

It'll be as funny as TNC's Rock moments. TNC, do The Rock wearing a beard smiling.

Worthington Is McG's "Captain Nemo"?
By Garth Franklin Sunday August 9th 2009 11:24PM

Out doing promotion for his upcoming TV series "Human Target", director McG tells IGN that he's already got a favourite to play Captain Nemo in the new version of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" he's slated to direct - his "Terminator Salvation" leading man Sam Worthington.

Of the rising Australian thespian who also stars in James Cameron's "Avatar", McG touched upon another remake Worthington has just finished filming - "Look out for Clash of the Titans because Clash is going to be really good – I’ve seen some of that. Now he’s doing The Tourist with Charlize [Theron]. He’s all over the place, and I might cast him as Nemo if it’s in the cards. We’ll see."

On the one hand the choice is somewhat odd, after all Nemo is an Indian in Jules Verne's classic novel. Then again Disney original 1954 film adaptation starred English thesp James Mason as Nemo, and the remake is once again being done by Disney Pictures.

No dates are locked in yet but at last report 'Nemo' was scheduled to shoot in Worthington's native Australia sometime later this year.

Worthington is definitely more suited to the rugged Kirk Douglas role.

Looks like this movie has been deep sixed.

Disney docks '20,000 Leagues' pic
Director McG withdraws from remake

By MICHAEL FLEMING

Disney has put "Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" in dry dock.

The picture, tentatively scheduled to begin production in February, has been halted indefinitely, and McG is no longer steering the ship.

The studio confirmed that it won't proceed with the film for now, and reps for the director confirmed he has withdrawn. While names like Will Smith were rumored as possible stars, no cast was ever set. The project had been on a fast track under the Dick Cook regime. Studio sez event pics like "20,000 Leagues," "John Carter of Mars" and "Tron" are still priority under new chief Rich Ross.

Disney's next big water-based shoot will likely be the fourth installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Pic is expected to set sail in May, with Rob Marshall in talks to direct.

McG will concentrate on other projects that include "Dead Spy Running," a Warner Bros. drama that Stephen Gaghan is writing. McG is also attached to "Terminator 5," though that movie is on hold indefinitely as the Terminator franchise works its way through bankruptcy court. McG also just teamed with "Borat" helmer Larry Charles on a new NBC comedy (Daily Variety, Nov. 16).

Well of course John Carter Of Mars and Tron are a priority. They're already well into production on those. 20.000 leagues didn't even have actors hired nor were sets etc. being built.

And i don't think we can blame this on McG. It's more to do with studio politcs. As many of you may or may not know , Disney has recently had a major shuffle in the exec. departement. One of the prominet head guys was fired and Rich Ross ( new head honcho) is dithcing several projects that were going to happen under the old regime.
Hence why they're focusing on POC 4 getting made instead of 20.000 leagues. Maybe somewhere in the near future they'll start talks again .

All they need to do is go back to the original novel. Bring on some fresh faced American or British white kid actor as the protagonist, and Mohinder from Heroes as Captain Nemo. Bam.

David Fincher to direct '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' (exclusive)

Quote:
Captain Nemo and his Nautilus are surfacing again.
Months after deep-sixing a McG-helmed version of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," Disney is in negotiations with David Fincher to direct, and hot "Bourne Ultimatum" scribe Scott Z. Burns to write, a new take on the classic Jules Verne story.
The project came together after Fincher approached Disney's new production head Sean Bailey a few weeks into his job this winter. The Oscar-nominated helmer wanted to tackle a four-quadrant tentpole movie, somewhat of a departure from the dark, R-rated dramas such as "Fight Club" and "Zodiac" (or even "Curious Case of Benjamin Button") that he's done in the past.

The project was being developed under the radar as Bailey settled into his position under new studio topper Rich Ross, then gained steam in the past few days with Fincher and Burns entering talks for deals.
First published in 1869, the classic science fiction novel is in the public domain. But ever since Disney's Kirk Douglas-starring version was released in 1954, the studio and the Verne story -- about a group of men who encounter a vengeful scientific genius and his warlike submarine -- have been linked in the public's mind. Last year, Disney was fast-tracking a $150 million "Leagues" that would have served as an origin story for Nemo. But the project was the first of several to be sunk by Ross when he took over the studio from Dick Cook in the fall (ironically, given Fincher's involvement, the dark tone of the McG version was a concern for the new regime).

It's not surprising that Disney would revisit "Leagues." Ross has said his mandate is to make wide-appeal, pre-branded entertainment. And while plotlines are being kept submerged, the Fincher/Burns take on the material is described as being in the vein of "Star Wars" or "The Empire Strikes Back." It will aim to be visually dazzling.
Burns, who penned Steven Soderbergh's latest "Contagion" as well as "The Informant!," will begin writing immediately. That should give Fincher, who is in post on "The Social Network" for Sony, time to direct another movie (possibly "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," also for Sony, but his name has surfaced in connection with a host of projects) before jumping into "Leagues."

I wish "Torso" was still getting made. I hope that Fincher is interested enough to try and make the movie eventually. It's probably just wishful thinking though, what with the rights reverting and all of his other projects lined up, now including this new 20,000 Leagues.

I must say to whoever knocked Anil Kapoor... the guy did an excellent job on 24... I thought he played Hassan superbly....the naieve, emotionally scarred, yet determined, smart and graceful leader with a certain sensitivity... it was pretty nuanced to see this man go broken over something he believed in so strongly, very well done.
