It makes me so angry that even though he won, it is and always will be tainted by the sympathy win jibes. It takes away all the joy from his success.

The craziest thing about it all is that I've seen every performance in the Best Supporting Actor category. Excluding Hoffman, the opposition is not on the level of Heath's in TDK. Yet the fact that Heath's opposition isn't all that great is completely ignored.

Some clown said to me the other day that Brolin deserved to win to which I replied Brolin wasn't even the Best Supporting Actor in Milk. James Franco and Emile Hirsch both outshone him IMO. Yet when I brought this up the clown admitted that he hadn't actually seen Milk, he just assumed Brolin was better. That's what you are up against.

I'm amazed at how Brolin was so highly-lauded in that film. Maybe it'll take me a second-viewing, but I found NOTHING special about his role. Nothing Oscar-worthy, anyway.

My favorite behind Heath was Hoffman. And even then, he was a very distant second.

What's funny is that if Heath hadn't been nominated, RDJ's nomination would have been even more newsworthy, or arguably would have never happened at all. I mean, Johnny Depp's nom for Jack Sparrow was such a big deal because it was for a fun, light-hearted comedic role. And RDJ's role was in a satire about Hollywood where he was in blackface. That's probably more out there than a comic book villain getting the nom. They probably felt safe in nominating RDJ for that role this year because Heath was always going to win.

Hi folks,

I'm a newbie and I'm glad to be finally validated after waiting almost two months to be able to post here. I'm female and I'm glad to see a few other female TDK fans here beside myself.

I'm tickled purple that Ledger won the Academy Award. I wasn't a real big fan of the Batman series. I did watch the tv series in the 60's when I was a kid (I'm revealing my age here) and saw the films with Clooney (I'm crazy about Clooney) but never really got into them per se.

I was out shopping with my sister and I saw the candy on sale and suggested it would be great to sneak into the movies. She said "Let's go. What do you wanna see?" I said I had heard a lot of interesting things about The Dark Knight (this was back in July of 08) and had political overtones to it. I follow politics and that's what got me interested in seeing the film.

Well, I gotta say, I was blown away with The Joker. Wow! I was astounded too by the level of intensity. I will never look at the superhero/villain genre quite the same. The film was unusually dark and got into a bit of psychology. What made the Joker so scary was there was really no figuring him out except he was a psychopath who just wanted "to watch the world burn."

Anyway, I'm happy to be here and share this with you. Now I'm hooked on TDK and The Joker.

In respect to Heath Ledger, his verison of what I think is the best Joker EVER! and to all those who loved him for what he meant to the world of acting and his great Oscare win (he would have won regardless)...here's my ultimate tribute to a great man who I wish I could see more films from.

Was watching Nickelodeon today and saw a clip for the Kids Choice Awards. The TV was on mute, but for a split second, they showed a clip from TDK of The Joker.

Very strange that TDK would get nominated for a Kid Choice Award. It's a very violent, disturbing movie with lots of 'talky' scenes that would bore kids.

Yeah, but its not exactly the movie Hollywood should be promoting to kids. (for reasons I mentioned above) and pretty much the only reason they like it is The Joker. They probably get bored from every scene he's not in.

That is a pretty ignorant statement. Sure, the little ****s don't comprehend of the significance of every scene, but I'm pretty sure that none of them got bored during one of his scenes. The kids who vote in the awards are 12-15, they're not 5 years-old.

Many fans really should read the comics to see how Joker has been written for most of his popular existence the real insanity and methods of killing, the over the top, flamboyance and ego and yes the bright clothes, eternal laugh and joke telling. That is his trademark, thats what makes him the JOKER and not just another psycho people seem to love forgetting this in favour of a great acted but pretty subdued creation Nolan gave us they have gone all snooty and look down on what makes Joker truly the CLOWN PRINCE of crime.

The comics have never painted a consistent portrayal of the character hence why Ledger's performance/the writing takes it's influence from the original concept of the Joker as a vicious sociopath (an interpretation that more or less returned in the 70s/80s). Just because the perception exists that he's always been written the same way doesn't mean it's actually been the case.

I am very glad Heath Ledger received all the praise and accolades he did for this role. I think it speaks to both his performance and the genre in general that major awards outlets are willing to reward comic book movies, as long as they are of an excellent quality. Had Mr. Ledger been alive, I believe he still would have received the Oscar. When you look at the five performances nominated, his stood out among the rest and was the most groundbreaking in the way it redefined the Joker for a new generation. This was a great way to reward the film, the performance, and the dynamic body of work Mr. Ledger has produced over these all-too-short few years.
