Default The Dark Knight: 30 Years Earlier...

There are so many recasting threads floating around the hype that I figured, what the hell, why dont I throw my hat in the ring? And since TDK is so often compared to The Godfather, I thought I would set the recasting in the 70s (1978, to be precise).

So, who do you think would've made a great cast for TDK in the 1970s.

I think I'm going to try to make one for Batman Begins, too...

Batman/Bruce Wayne - Warren Beatty (I originally thought of Clint Eastwood, but he would've been too old even back then)
The Joker - Malcolm McDowell
Harvey Dent/Two Face - Robert Redford
Commissioner Gordon - Roy Scheider
Rachel Dawes - Diane Keaton
Alfred - Laurence Olivier
Lucius Fox - Sidney Poitier

Are you all forgetting that Adam West was Batman back then, what makes you think his groovy self wouldn't be the lead...

Jack Nicholson in the 70's was practically made for the Joker, especially if he got to play him "Shining" style.

How about a 70’s cast, but with actors from an awesome movie made in 1997?

Batman/Bruce Wayne – Dirk Diggler (Mark Wahlberg)
Joker – Miguel TT Rodriguez (Luis Guzman)
Two-Face/Harvey Dent – Reed Rothchild (John C. Reilly)
Commissioner Gordon – Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds)
Rachel Dawes – Rollergirl (Heather Graham)
Alfred – Little Bill (William H. Macy)
Lucius Fox – Buck Swope (Don Cheadle)

Oh yeah!

Agreed. He was a little old by 1989, but in the late 70's he would have been perfect.

After the likes of Child's Play and Exorcist III, Brad Dourif would've been an amazing Joker, giving the necessary laughs when needed but overall, scaring the hell out of us. At the end of the 70's, he was still young, but he still would've been able to pull off the character.

Definitely Paul Newman as Gordon in the 70s. That's always been perfect casting for me. Alec Guinness would have made a great Alfred too.

I kind of wish you said late 80s though. That's so much easier to cast...

Batman - Alec Baldwin
Joker - Willem Dafoe
Harvey Dent – Mel Gibson
Gordon - Harrison Ford
Lucius Fox - James Earl Jones

Here's my list, taking parts from others and adding my own.

Bruce Wayne -- Harrison Ford
Joker -- Malcolm McDowell
Harvey Dent -- Robert Redford
James Gordon -- Paul Newman
Alfred Pennyworth -- Alec Guiness
Rachel Dawes -- Sela Ward
Lucius Fox -- Sydney Poitier

This would have been the third team up for Newman and Redford, and really could have made the film something else. All the other casting decisions are self-evident: great actors for make a great movie.

Bruce Wayne/Batman - Robert De Niro
The Joker - Christopher Walken - liked him in BR but always felt he should've had a shot at a top tier Bat-villan
Harvey Dent - Harvey Keitel - and have Scorsese direct it
James Gordon - Robert DuVall
Alfred Pennyworth - Richard Harris
Rachel Dawes - Cybil Shepard - could not see past her and RDN in Taxi Driver
Lucious Fox - Richard Pryor - in a serious take like he was in Blue Collar

Can't see Gibson in that part myself.

Sela Ward's never been a movie star though. Plus she would have been too young back then anyway, and she hadn't even appeared on screen.

to De Niro.

And Harvey Keitel isn't exactly known for his looks.

with DeNiro I was thinking he can play it straight and look all polished up for Bruce Wanye, but have the Taxi Driver eyes and scariness for Batman, I think he could've pulled off not a bad Bruce/Batman. He could've put on a decent BM voice I think.

Keitel is good looking enough I think, I was thinking of him as Charlie in 'Mean streets' for the Dent part of his performance, the man conflicted between making the right and wrong decisions, and his turn in 'Bad Liuetenant' for the full blown Two-Face. edit: Esp the screaming while naked scene.
