Default The Southern Vampire Mysteries/Sookie Stackhouse Series

Is anyone else reading this series by Charlaine Harris?! It is absolutely awesome and a great read as each book keeps getting better and better.

I'm on the sixth book "Definitely Dead" now, but I'd have to say the fourth book "Dead to the World" was the best one so far.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
The war with the vampires and werewolves facing off against the witch coven with Sookie's help was awesome.

Now with the show True Blood on, it just makes the whole series that much more fun to read. Love it!

I've heard that this is really good. Have you read Twilight SuperT? Is this series better, worse, or about even?

I won't even touch that tripe, Twilight. My friend dragged me to see that movie and usually I'm not one of those people that go "Ugh I wasted 10 to see that crap" but Twilight made me say that out loud. So completely laughable.

I won't touch the books. They're too teenage angst for me, whereas The Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood series is far more adult.

I just started book 3. I thought book 2 was a little stale, but the 3rd one seems to be shaping up.

I hated Twilight, so this is just what I wanted to read

The vampires in the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood series follow more traditional vampire lore and are far my lethal and deadly.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
There's also other supernatural, or supes, as they call each other in the books like goblins, shapeshifters, fairies, telepaths, goblins, werewolves, and maenads.

Any of you read the Ann Rice novels - Interview with a Vampire and the others?

I've heard they go down hill after the first one, sinking into a pit of gay vamp porn...

Thoughts?

I read "Queen of the Damned" a couple of years ago. Her stuff is a little too dark and brooding for my taste, but it was still a good book.

I love these books. Once I start one, I can never put it down. The whole world in these books is so rich and diverse. The characters, even though I don't always agree with what happens to them, are all really interesting. Pam is even more awesome than in the show. I can really see a lot of book Sookie in Paquin, so they did a good job there. The witch that's introduced in the last few books has quickly grown to be a favorite of mine. And Harris really knows how to write some dramatic and tense scenes like the rescue attempt in Club Dead. I also really enjoyed the personal twist for Sookie at the end of the last book, From Dead to Worse. It was totally unexpected, but rather nice. Can't wait until Dead and Gone in May.

Actually each one gets better up until Memnoch The Devil (the 5th) then they go downhill from there.

Anybody ever read Michael Romkey's vampire novels? The first two were awesome. Haven't read the rest yet.

I just bought Dead Until Dark a few days ago but haven't started reading it yet. Gotta finish up the book I'm currently reading but I'm looking forward to when I finally get to start up. I've heard good things from a friend about the series plus I love True Blood. Though I don't know how I'm gonna feel about Bill not playing a prominent role when he's so integral to the show.

Meh. I never got into them; too tame. Perfer Nancy Collins Sonja Blue books (In The Blood, etc.). You've got to check her out.

I've never read or heard of that other series so I can't compare, but I'd hardly call the Southern Vampire books tame. Especially the last two where she's killed a bunch of the tertiary characters off, even go so far in the last book to off two pregnant women and had Sookie tortured to near death.
