I think Michael is much more talented and his music is just better. Prince sang a few good songs but Michael had a whole bunch more, imo...and moonwalk is classic
I love Michael Jackson, but Michael only wrote about half of his early singles. "Rock With You," "Thriller," "Off the Wall," "PYT," "Human Nature." Those were all done by other people. If you look at the latter part of his career, even "Butterflies" was sold to him by Floetry. He rarely even produced his own music.

Every hit Prince had was written and produced by Prince.

Th Cool Re: Michael or Prince?

Michael was a phenomenon in his youth, and surely helped to pave the way for the success of "crossover" 80's rockers like Prince. But looking at Prince's career overall...especially in regards to writing his own music, playing his own instruments, and style...he's just light years beyond MJ.

He's produced so much music that most people aren't even aware of. Every year, I just keep finding new unreleased tracks, alternate versions, live recordings, etc. from the late 70's up to the present. If you ever get the chance to see him in concert, then check him out. He always rocks the house. He's one of the most spontaneous, unique and just plain funny musicians in mainstream pop. Once he steps on the stage, you never know what he's going to do. There's always some kind of surprise. Also, you never know when he's just going to randomly whip out a guitar, or jump behind a keyboard and start jamming. Prince is just amazing.

One clever thing I like that Prince did was when all the tickets for his Musicology Tour counted as a purchase of the CD, and when the show was over everyone got a free copy of Musicology and because of that he was on top of the charts for that moment.

Also, didn't Prince win an Oscar for Purple Rain?

Other than his singles, Michael Jacksons stuff is awful filler. Prince for the most part isn't.

And songs aside, people mostly watch Michael just for his dance moves; which honestly really haven't changed in years.

Prince, no question. I loves me some MJ, but Prince is an amazing guitarist on top of his incredible songs.

Both are great influences. The only reason why Prince is winning is because his personal life and legacy hasn't been tainted by vicious false allegations.

I bet those who are voting for Prince hate Michael and don't even give Michael credit anyways.

Default The LONG and SHORT

O.K. First Ima forget Mike Jackson is a perv for 2 seconds..

Prince produces, writes, arranges, plays like a dozen instraments, is responsible for Morris Day, Jimmy and Terry, Vanity 6 maybe not so much Vanity 6, Carmn Electra came from the Prince tree...He acts...not the greatest, but damn, can put on an acoustic show, dances and is still going.

Michael Jackson is an excelent performer and dancer.

I give Quincy Jones 70% who is another gen-us the credit for the most of Mike's superstar success.

Right, because it's not like we gave reasons for voting for Prince or anything. Anyway...

There are so many artists we would've never even heard of if it weren't for Prince creating their music. My favorite example is Sinead O'Conner, who wouldn't even have her one hit ("Nothing Compares 2 U") if it weren't for Prince.

Price is so good, he makes other people famous. People not related to him, I mean.

I bet the majority of people who voted for Prince just voted for him because they know of the issues Michael has had and they refuse to acknowledge his musical genius.

Since when do fans faint at the presence of Prince? Don't get me wrong, I love Prince, he's a great musician and entertainer. But Michael has the ability to bring out such powerful emotions from people. All you have to do is watch Michael's performance of "Man in the Mirror" in Bucharest and watch the audience.

I haven't seen Prince have that kind of effect on an audience and he never will.

Plus, Prince lost some of my respect when he started whining and complaining about Youtube having his music on there. Because Prince definitely needs the money and is on the verge of being broke.

There will only be one Michael Jackson and there will be only one Prince. But I definitely feel Michael is the better showman and singer.

Nobody here is denying Michael's unbelievable talent. That doesn't mean he's the end-all be-all of popular music, and none of us are allowed to like anyone more than him.

That said...

Prince brings out an entirely different type of reaction in women than Michael Jackson at his shows. A sexual reaction. It's like MJ is the God of Music, but Prince is the God of Music & Fertility. MJ's fans get so excited they faint. Prince's fans get so hot and bothered they faint.

Similar but different.

I guess another thing MJ has over Prince is that he's loved all around the world. I'm not sure how worldwide known Prince is but even if Michael's disrespected here in the states everyone loves him everywhere else.

Sinead O'Conner is still a widely respected and sought after musician. Besides, she basically owns the song. She took what Prince wrote and made it so much better than he ever could.

Michael Jackson also has sex appeal. Perhaps if you watched his Dirty Diana performance you'd recognize that. To Prince's credit he is the better musician, he writes, produces, and has control over all of his material and he is a musical genius. I truly believe that if you look up the definition of music Prince's picture will be there.

However, with that said, Michael Jackson is an icon. He is, in my opinion, the best entertainer in the world and I've had the pleasure of seeing him in concert during his 1992 Dangerous World Tour. My mother purchased the tickets for my birthday and it's one thing to see the performance via youtube videos or television, but to be there live? To actually see both women and men fainting in the presence of Michael? It's an experience.

Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Carlos Santana, Steve Stevens, and Jennifer Batten all have created amazing music with Michael. I do believe his best work as far as the hard rock sound is concerned came with EVH, Slash, and Steve Stevens.

If you acknowledge that Prince is the better musician, then why do you have such a problem with some of us voting for him over Michael Jackson? Because first and foremost, I voted for the music. Michael's skills as a performer almost got a vote out of me, but when it came right down to it, I voted for the man with the better music-- the one who puts the most effort into his albums to make them the best he can.

Yes, Michael Jackson is an amazing performer. Yes, he has more fans and (apparently) gets some illogically large reactions out of them. That's all a definite plus. That's just not what I voted for. I voted for the music.

I just feel people voted for Prince not because of his music, but because since Michael is viewed as "freakshow", "pedophile", and "pervert" they went with the man who is sex personified and etc. It's "cool" to hate Michael and I'm sure if the person did a Michael Jackson vs. Marilyn Manson or Michael Jackson vs. Fred Durst poll MM and FD would win. Why? Because it's "cool" to hate Michael and to ignore his talent.

No.

Most people come right out and say "MJ is an awesome talent, but he's also a ****ing pedophile." because both are true. If it was MJ versus Marilyn Manson it would be a tougher choice because both are great for different reasons, but if it was MJ versus Fred Durst MJ would undoubtedly win because everyone recognizes that he's a great musician in spite of the fact that he's a ****ing pedo.
