Arkham Asylum is tops for me. Probably the closest we could ever hope to get to a photorealistic or live action take on BTAS. And, quite frankly, I'd love to watch a live action version of BTAS done in much the same style as Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. A stinker of a film surely, but the atmosphere was awesome.

My favorite moment from the show-

"The Laughing Fish"

ALFRED-"Dining in tonight, sir?"

BATMAN-"The dissection tray, please, Alfred."

I've thought the same thing for so long.

I could see the Batsuit being made of a heavier material than anyone suspects, but not molded body armor obviously. To give a man the look of the BTAS physique you could do some kind of heavy fabric outer suit with a kevlar vest under. I don't know... I'm thinking along the lines of Art Deco/Dark Deco mixed with Steampunk in a way...

He IS Batman. Bruce Wayne, and the public voice that he uses, is the disguise. It's effing brilliant. It's a shame that Bale and Nolan haven't gone for a similar quality.
While I agree that Conroy's voice-work is probably the most iconic rendition of Batman, I disagree with the last part of your post. I don't think the approach Conroy went for with the animated Batman would work for Nolan's version. I was actually thinking about this a while ago and I realised that the two versions of the character are actually pretty different. Conroy's Bruce voice was never really that great either IMO...it was good, but not as good as his Batman. So much so that having re-watched some BTAS episodes recently, I'm having a hard time believing people who talked and knew both Bruce Wayne and Batman wouldn't recognize the similarities between their voices.

BTAS was what started it all for me; it aired when I was a little girl and I fell in love with it right away. If you asked me what I wanted out of life when I was eight years old, chances are I would have answered that I wanted to go on adventures with Batman in Gotham City.

I'm 26 now, but I still consider it my favorite show ever. I have it on DVD and often rewatch my favorite episodes. I'm especially fond of Robin's Reckoning (both parts).

Kevin Conroy

Why is this guy not working more? He's officially been typecast as a voice actor... unless he is getting paid well enough and has no desire to do anything but the odd Batman gig.

Really? You think there's not a significant difference between them that it would throw Gordon off? He spends far more time with Batman, hears that deeper gruffer voice all the time. When he encounters Bruce Wayne on occasion he's hearing a higher pitched and more sing-song speech from him. For whatever reason the voice is not something anyone has ever thought to use as a base for figuring out who he is. No one has ever used voice recognition tech on Batman. Which would make sense, but the costume is enough to distract from the man's voice.

I think Conroy's voice work is perfect as both Batman and Bruce Wayne, particularly when Bruce Wayne is alone with someone that knows he's Batman, he doesn't speak like public Bruce, he's Bat-Bruce.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I love that nuancing of the voice that Conroy does as well. It's just his Bruce voice seems a bit off to me(perhaps even unnatural) in certain scenes. His Batman voice seems much more natural, which I guess is probably intentional, considering in BTAS his Batman personality is supposed to be the real him.

I'm also willing to suspend my disbelief when it comes to no one ever using voice recognition tech on Batman, or not even picking up on the similarities between Batman's and Bruce's voices because it's a cartoon. This is actually one of the reasons I don't think Conroy's voice would work in a live-action movie or at least, not in Nolan's version.

Kevin Conroy's Batman/Bruce works in Nolanverse- Check out Gotham Knight. Too bad he's not young anymore he could've been cast in Batman 89/Returns. Don't get me wrong I like Michael Keaton as Batman.

Alright, I cannot be the only person who has noticed that on the DVD's, each episode up to and including "Two-Face" Part 1, the Batmobile's engine has a slight rev when it drives off.

Bumpity-bump

I've been re-watching a lot of BTAS over the last couple of weeks. A show that will forever be timeless. Anyway, can anyone remember what was the first ever episode of this amazing show that you saw?

Mine was 'The Forgotten'. The episode where Bruce gets kidnapped, loses his memory, and ends up in that slave labor camp out in the middle nowhere. One of the best early episodes, even with the corny sequence of Alfred flying the Batwing.

For me the episode was either the first Man-Bat episode or Cat and the Claw. Either way I was hooked!

Will this series ever get the Blu-Ray treatment?

I know! I recently got Return of the Joker on blu-ray and it looks fab. Transferred really well.

That episode's probably the most light hearted one of the series.

Transfer is great, but I wished for a 16x9 wide screen and not a 4x3 transfer.
