I really like the MP, but I didn't try gang wars yet.

Absolutely. Especially if you enjoyed Max Payne 1 and 2. I've never touched the MP yet and, frankly, I never intend to. But the SP was so good I don't feel cheated out of my $60 in any way.

JUST finished the game. Gotta say I wasn't sure what to expect..id played Max Payne 1 along time ago and missed 2, so this was almost totally new to me. And it was awesome!
![]() It felt exactly like how id want a Die Hard game to play. I haven't played a non-sandbox game in awhile and it was exhausting going from mission to mission with no rest, but in a good way. The voice acting was superb. Really really like Max. My best game ever is probably Red Dead Redemption and I love Marston, proper badass. Max came pretty close, and what a cool voice! It did get insanely hard at times, in a good way, but it was frustrating that there were few savepoints..or I just wanted more lol..took me about 50x to do the final part of the hotel demolition. As someone else said the worst part of this game is the whole last shot thing..start of it is cool..but laying down then standing up isn't. I wish you could hold the botton to get back into cover position or tap to roll and stand instead of sloooowly standing. Amazed how much value for money it was too, length wise. Many times I thought the end was a step ahead but it kept going, and with a nice variety to it. Looked beautiful. Played smoothly. Was exciting, very much so...well worth a try! Infact, im sad its over. How much like Uncharted is this btw? Iv always wanted to try it but iv got a 360. Max Payne 4 perhaps?

Max truly has balls of steel.
![]() ![]() I'm about halfway through the game I think... I wonder if Tony Scott was consulted for the cutscenes. ![]() Quote:

I don't think I'd stress Uncharted and Max Payne similarities to anyone hoping to pick up Uncharted. They're both 3rd person shooters that have an emphasis on story, but great gameplay. I would however say that I feel that Uncharted's gameplay is more fluid and that Nate doesn't feel as heavy and slow as Max and getting in and out of cover is better in Uncharted. Also, Uncharted is very much like a modern day Indiana Jones.

Most definitely, I was mostly talking about the cinematic elements. Uncharted handles really well, so much so that I forget I'm actually in control during a lot of the big action sequences. The shooting is clunky to me but it's a wicked platformer.

Okay, I'm trying to beat this on Hard and good lord the rooftop part after Max blows the building up with the C4 is brutal. I can barely come out of cover to shoot without getting downed fast and if I do manage to get to the end, the final enemy keeps managing to kill me. The timer doesn't help either, since we have to rush through this part instead of taking our time. I've been stuck on this part for about an hour now.
If I do manage to beat Hard mode, I don't think I'm even gonna attempt Hardcore or Old School mode. |

Everyone's saying "zombie", but this reminds me of something else. Does this drug remind anyone of the Valkyrie drug from Max Payne 1?
http://health.yahoo.net/experts/dayi...ath-salts-drug Bath salts, which have been called the new LSD, cause people “to go completely insane and become very violent,” Hmmn. Where's Max?

Here is the thing about this part: you have to be quick, or the rooftop will collapse and you will die. I had a hard time finishing it too. But using cover won't work, because it takes too much time. I used cover until the first explosion blew up the first guy. Then, I used bullet time to kill all the others with head shot. Then, when you go to the next part of the building, use shootdodge. And when you go to the last part, go to the door, then quickly take cover. Shoot the three guys, then the boss is coming. Shoot him in the head several times, and that's it.

I found dying afew times, and therefore getting more pills from the restarted checkpoint, really helped during that final rooftop bit.

Well I just beat the game on Hard and along with the the rooftop bit, other parts I died like 40 times on were at the beginning of Chapter 14(baggage room), the airport terminal, and near the end where's there's like 30 guys shooting at you, along with Becker with his grenade launcher.
I found it wise to try to have as many painkillers as I could. |

I just got the game yesterday. Gotta say, the story is pretty disappointing so far (I'm still trying to rescue that blond chick after the mob flashback). The fact that Max doesn't seem to care about anything, and there being no emotional connection to the person you're pursuing gives me very little need to want to continue the game. I will, because i shelled out 60 bucks for the game, but this game seems to be a case of meaningless visual flair over story substance. I understand he's drunk all the time, but the visual effect is completely overused and the pop up text seems to rarely add to what they're saying, used so much it doesn't seem to enhance or draw importance to things important to the story they're trying to tell. It seems to be alot of political intrigue that Max (and therefore the audience) doesn't give a **** about. Hopefully they're using this to set something else up later, but right now, I just feel like there's no reason for Max to have done any of the stuff he's done. I'll reserve judgement until I finish the game, but so far, I feel like most of the missions are more of a chore than fun. They also pull me out of the game with too many cutscenes in places that would actually be more fun if they did it uncharted style and made it a playable sequence.
Glad I got that off my chest, here's hoping the game starts to blow my mind at some point.

I liked it since the beginning, but indeed, you need to know the whole story to really appreciate what you're playing now.

The only thing I didn't like about this game's story was how it disregarded Max Payne 2. I loved that story because it was beautiful how Max goes through this catharsis because of Mona... then he's back here, drunk every second of the day.
I haven't read the prequel comic but I hope it explains why. It was cool to see Max gun for names though, vaguely understanding why he's trying to kill these people lol and generally just not giving a f**k. His little quips whenever you pick up painkillers made me chuckle. It was a huge step back to make the gameplay more realistic. I can appreciate them trying to do it but it got in the way more often than not. Shoot-dodging was useless this time around because as soon as you hit anything time sped back up and you were on the floor ready to soak up bullets. Ugh.* Plus aiming in general isn't as fluid as it should have been because of that "weight compensation" BS they put in. It was annoying. And another little thing... who thought it was a good idea to have Max reset to his default weapon after every cutscene? That was irritating as hell. I didn't mind the limited weapons and painkillers though. It made the gunfights more intense, especially when I had to think on my feet and figure out how I was going to get the gun of the closest guy to me. Hahah I had tons of cool moments where I would step out of cover running at a dude, blast the guy in the face with my last 5 pistol rounds, roll to pick up his rifle, take cover and immediately start blindfiring. In unison with the kickass score I felt like a bawsss. I hope Rockstar's RAGE engine is used in more shooters, the euphoria physics are incredible; there were times when I'd shoot an armoured dude in the face and he'd still be shooting at me without a lower jaw hahah, but aside from that it's ace. Anyhoo, it was definitely a great game. I wish they stuck with the noir feel but anytime Max is gonna put some holes in bad guys, sign me up. edit: *turned out to be an issue with mouse acceleration. Shoot-dodging is f**king awesome after the patch.

They really need more save points because with the auto-death headshots, it's very hard to get by some sections on the Hard difficulty for me. I must've replayed this dock mission like 30 times... Still have yet to finish it, I suspect I'm on the last round of guys, but whenever I seem to get really close I get headshotted out of nowhere.

Hahah that 60 second summary hurt my brain. I did like the humour in MP3 but the 2nd is still the best, if only for Gognitti in his ridiculous Captain Baseballbat-boy costume.

OK I just tried using multi-player. I created my avatar, and in the 3-4 games I played as a rookie deathmatch or team deathmatch it loads some other avatar. How do I use my guy???

I don't quite agree that MP3 ignored MP2; Max makes a few references to Mona and stuff throughout the story. I just think that the Aesir/Max arc had drawn to a close, so MP3 is more of a personal story about Max himself.

Loved that vid lol. So from what I gather from the end of MP2..he had came to terms with his wifes death and was moving on? But now people dislike that MP3 sorta forgot all that..well..not being an expert of course..id just link it to his addictions keeping him trapped from moving on and scared to love again, etc. I think he even mentioned the woman from 2, so it didn't completely skip over it.

To where he is at the start of the third, still tormented and still drinking like a fish. I didn't mind the lack of noir in favour of a more personal tale but everytime Max felt sorry for himself I was like, "wtf?" Hahah. I think it would have been much better if he got sucked into that world some other way but I guess they needed him to be drunk and naive for the narrative to be effective.Quote:

I think it's still a perfect place for him to be, emotionally. I mean, you don't just get over the death of your family like that. Even if you finally get around to a place where you might accept that they are gone, that still leaves a scar. If he accepted that at the end of MP 2, I would say MP 3 is about him trying to learn how to live with that himself. Without his family and his job to distract him, I would say MP 3 is about him figuring out what else he has. And the connection between him and the family he's protecting is obvious, he says as much... He just doesn't want to feel responsible for the deaths of anymore women.
