I enoyed THE ULTIMATES and all, it's way different from anything else out there, etc., but IMO despite Millar and Hitch's big-budget blockbuster approach to it, it should not be used as the basis for the Avengers movie. Maybe just a little, but not as the primary source.

Since I get the sense I'm not the only one who feels this way, I figured it would be a good idea to get people talking about it.

Totally agree. I think they need to stick to 616 as closely as possible.

Marvel Entertainment needs to do away with The Ultimate Universe and focus all their movies on Eath-616.

i mean 616 sure BUT you cant deny ultimates altogether.

some say balance while others want a lean to one side, imo pure 616 wont translate well on screen. thats where small ultimates nods could come in. btw sorry if the formatting might be ugly im replying thru my ps3

You may have a point , but I grew up reading about the heroes from Earth-616. I'm not gone to cave in, when it comes to the Ultimate Universe. I'm not a PC man and if people can't handle it. That's their problem.

but yeah, my point is basically, i agree with the op/tc/jordacar
that it's annoying when people want a direct translation from the ultimates
it DID start with the 616 after all, but i think ironman and tih proved that elements from both (more from 616) can still work.

I completely agree, ultimates=/=best possible movie, but at the same time, we can't deny the ultimates' existence altogether.

I like classic Avengers as much as the next fan, but it seems pretty obvious they're trending toward The Ultimates version of the characters, at least in terms of the formation of the team, etc.

Ya know, I'm all for more 616 in most franchises, but with Avengers I just loved Ultimates 1 and 2 so much I'd be dissapointed if they didn't draw heavily from it. There's things about it I don't like, especially concerning Banner/Hulk (perverted, bloodthirsty Hulk? Wut?) and Betty Ross (was she ever that much of a c-word before?) but overall it's my favorite versions of most of those characters. Kind of a moot point as from the little we've gotten from IM and TIH it seems like they'll be drawing heavily from it, anyway.

I'd have to rewatch both movies again but off the top of my head Nick Fury is kind of obvious. Also, Banner and Hulk being connected to the ressurection of the super soldier program (albeit without his knowledge, unlike the actual ultimate comics). Those would be the biggest two I can think of.

As long as the characters have their 616 personalities and looks, I won't really mind. I think a mix of 616 and Ultimate works well.

While I dont think a straight-up adaptation of The Ultimates would work, I think there are definitely certain elements of the story that could be put to good use in the Avengers movie.

For one, Captain America's Ultimate costume >>>>>> Cap's 616 costume

I don't mind certain elements or updates similar to the Ultimates. Just remember that Ultimate Avengers, the animated movies shared very little in common with the actual Ultimates comics.

However, I'm still mystified when people like Zak Penn say something like there's nothing funny silly or campy about The Ultimates.

Iron Man seemed to take very little to nothing from the Ultimate-verse besides Ultimate Fury.

nick fury wasn't in the im animated movie it was a feild agent that tried to arrest him on mai li's manufactured evidence

The animated Iron Man movie was also totally seprate from ultimate Avengers.

I think the only things that should be more like Ultimate are Captain America and the formation of the team through shield, under Nick Fury.

I say, if the Ultimates have a good idea that works best then use that. If the 616 has a good idea that works best then use that instead. If it's a toss up between them then always err on the side of the 616 since it's got the larger history and fan-base. Pretty simple.
