Default Marvel Spills Some Plot Points

"Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of super hero: "Thor." This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth."

From here: http://tinyurl.com/qhw2xr

What's odd about this article is that Marvel confirms Tom Hiddelston as Loki but not Chris Hemsworth as Thor.

Hmmm... sounds interesting... maybe Keyzer or Corp can elaborate on this summary of the plot.

Sounds like a lot more Blake and Midgard than what was gleaned from the early draft (at least the one I saw referenced).

Sounds great. I love the idea of Thor being cast out to learn a lesson. Nothing works better than a fallen hero rising back to former glory. The best superhero movies are always the ones that have a message behind them, in this case "humility."

Looking forward to it now more than ever.

"present day Earth", huh? That sentence alone gives a hint of how much the first draft was changed. Also, there were no "dark forces of Asgard invading Earth". It looks interesting...

That's exactly how I always envisioned this film playing out. I did not see it as a fantasy epic. I imagined Blake for almost 25-33%... struggling to come to grips with his true self. The tormented ordinary man who becomes a hero when Earth is threatened. Fantasy never suited Marvel. This is still a superhero movie. Generic perhaps, but that's Marvel.

i don't know about that. Besides Thor, Marvel published Conan The Barbarian, an award-winning comic that lasted 23 YEARS, Savage Sword Of Conan which lasted over 20 years, and had mild success with other Fantasy Titles such as King Kull, Savage Tales, Ka-zar, and Red Sonja...

To say Fantasy never suited the company is incorrect.

I can't help you, sorry. This sounds SUBSTANTIALLY different from any script I read, to the point where it would seem they didn't so much redraft as go back to the drawing board.

As am I. I didn't mean me saying the script was substantially different to sound as negative as it reads, looking back. I'm excited about being back in unknown territory as regards this film. I really enjoyed much of the leaked script - particularly Loki's characterisation - but I'm not so attached to the storyline that I'm not open to another approach. And as much as I enjoyed the presentation of Thor as a fantasy period-piece, sequences on present day Earth will help this film tie into the rest of the Marvel Universe a little better.

One thing I have mixed feelings on is the apparent adjustment of Loki's role. In the first script, one of the highlights for me was Loki's characterisation, seeing him fall from dutiful son to scheming trickster, and getting a glimpse of the internal conflict going on behind his transformation. But judging by this synopsis (which admittedly, doesn't tell us much), we're going to be having Loki as an already-established threat to Asgard. Though this is more accurate to comic book Loki (who always knew Odin killed his true father, rather than suddenly discovering it as an adult), we could be losing a compelling character arc.
