What I'm trying to say is that these aren't the greatest TF movies that could have ever been made (though the first one was pretty great), but I would much rather stick with Bay who delivers what he delivers than a cheap Bay ripoff that is just going to fall flat on every aspect. Unless Spielberg wants to step in for the third one, which he doesn't.

And as I expected, the argument in defense of ROTF has now come down to money, as if big opening week boxoffice somehow validates all the inept, sloppy filmmaking that is so painfully obvious in this movie.

So let's review some past high-dollar blockbusters and gauge their quality:

Shrek 3 : $323 mil US
The Matrix Reloaded: $282 mil US
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: $317 mil US
Meet the Fockers : $279 mil US
How the Grinch Stole Christmas : $260 mil US
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End : $309 mil US

and of course...

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace : $431 mil US

Yep, nothing but great film specimens there!
put up a list of how many bad movies make no money

besides all i said was if the action was as lazy, sloppy and incoherent as ppl say it is, why would all thsese people come back for more

how many ppl of this (near) record box office really hate it that much

I thought in order to do what dk did a film needs to be loved
(of all the films you just listed how many came close to dk's opening)

Well, we don't really know how many people are going to "come back for more" right now do we? (Assuming you mean repeat viewings.)

My point is that there was no question that ROTF was going to make big money. It was front-loaded for success based on the success of the first film and the lure of the robot special effects. But it arguably didn't deliver as well as the first TF movie did (and yes, there are a LOT of non-critics and non-fanboys saying this too, so no use in pretending otherwise), so the "legs" this movie will have is something that remains to be seen.

when i said ppl came back for more, I was referring to the dozens of people who saw the first one...

and yes, the success of the first one made this a big success, just like the success of the next one will be partly due to the success of this one
at some point this will be considered a successful franchise

oh i'm sure critics are praising the first one now, funny how the lesser of two evils rule works

After much thought...i've decided that Peter Jackson is the ideal director for Transformers.

Can you tell me what makes you choosing him over, say, James Cameron or Roland Emmerich?

Jackson has prior experience with making large, epic scoped films...and has experience with humans interacting with much larger beings/creatures.

It just seems like a good fit because he puts a lot of heart in his movies, large action sequences, great set pieces and great camera angles.

whatever you feel about TF1 and TF2, the guy made the movie really for the masses, and it worked. every part i thought was cheesy or corny were the parts everyone else loved.

so maybe theres' something to it.

Apparently, Bay is only producing I am Number Four. He wants to direct a drama called Pain and Gain (With no explosions! ), tough. But there's 50% of chance he might end up doing Transformers 3 for 2011.

50%? He himself wants to wait for TF3 for 2012.

If DreamWorks/Paramount are smart enough, they'll wait for 2012 for Bay. If not, well, they can go ahead and get Jackson or Cameron, but I won't be watching it.

Paramount might want to fast track TF3 because of the B.O numbers. Besides, Bay might change his mind and want to do a 3 one soon. 50%, I say.

I'm worried about Orci and Kurtzman not coming back. At least, Ehren Krueger is continuing, I believe. Hope they come back, tough.

he will do TF3. it would be stupid of him not too. all this is just to create drama. raimi came back, nolan will come back.

it's just them playing hard to get.

I don't know about Nolan. He seems like a guy who would not come back if he doesn't find the right story.

And Bay said he'll definetly come back. The question is: 2011 or 2012?

You should be worried about them coming back.

Let them release it in 2012. Hopefully that will give them enough time to do a proper movie.

I'm starting to fear that every discussion about the movies will become Hate Wars.

I've heard that argument before. For Star Trek '09. People know what Abrams can do, yet they choose to make up their mind before the film comes out because people are sure that it's gonna be different from previous films. And look at what we have. Star Trek 09. The sole savior of a disappointing Summer 09.

I was interested with Abrams' version back with the teaser trailer, so that's not a good example for me. But here's one, I liked Thomas Jane as the Punisher, so I said I will never watch War Zone, and I haven't yet. And never will.

But it's just that a new director for TF will mess up what Bay created, much like how Burton left the Batman franchise, and Schumacher effed it up. Sure, Bay's not the greatest of directors, but a new one for TF3 will mess up every way that Bay created it with. So, I usually mean what I say.

And also, I'm not a big fan for either Jackson or Cameron. Didn't like LOTR or King Kong, and not a fan of any of Cameron's stuff, except for maybe True Lies, and I'm not a big Terminator fan. But...Avatar does seem interesting for what's it worth.
