Personally I had a low opinion of Slumdog Millionare, thought it was overhyped and overated. I really don't think it deserved the spotlight the night of the oscars and didn't deserve to win all those oscars, but that's just me.

Anyways, moving on I really liked the Sharukh Khan and Kajol film called Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. I thought it was the definition of a true indian classic, if there are any indians on these boards, you can relate to me on this. In my opinion it was and probably will be the only movie that I'll ever rate a perfect 10/10, but I can't predict what's out there in the future so I don't know. I also loved Hum Aapke Hain Koun with Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan. It was bloody brilliant! 9.9/10. I thought Hum Hain Rahee Pyaar Ke with Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla was a great comedy 9.9/10 as well. No movies can compare to those of the 90's for me, those times will never come back, damn wish it would though. I liked Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 9.8/10 for me, which was also quite amusing. Hum Tum was amazing, 9.7/10. I could go on and on like this but I'll let you guys decide. Dil Ka Rishta and Khakee were great too.

My company is working with Vivek Oberoi on a crossover film for him to get some American exposure.

Oh really? Can I be in it? Jking. but yeah cast someone like Madhuri Dixit or Kajol Devgan. Those are two of the hardest working actresses out there and with them I'm sure you'll get the job done well, they are top-notch actresses and have yet to play in this kind of cross-over film that you're talking about, so it would be a change in a good way and very diverse, as to roles they have already taken and played. Madhuri lives here in Denver, Colorado, so if you can try and get in touch with her to shoot your next film. Good luck with the film and maybe this actor can be the new up and coming Shahrukh Khan of the next 2 or 3 decades, who knows. I wish you luck man.

I'll shoot those names over to my partners. I am just the "talent" (I wrote the screenplay) but they're the producing end.

OMG dude, you are so lucky any Indian like me would die to be in your position and be anywhere in the film industry. If this turns out a success, you owe it me, cause i'm praying for this man. Haven't really seen that many Vivek films but I'll check them out, hopefully he'll get his breakthrough role with this film as the leading male actor and find someone to play the leading female actress, and next thing you know you'll be at the oscars, waiting for your name to be announced for the award by someone famous like idk Johnny Depp.

On the bright side, 2008 was not a bad year at all, Jaane Tu....Ya Jaane Na was pretty good 8/10. Ghajini was no way more entertaining than Memento. 5/10 for ghajini. 1997 Dil To Pagal Hai 8.3/10 for me, pretty satifying but still a little to short. Yes Boss, was 7.5/10 in my views, overall it was good. Duplicate was 7.4/10, it was good but far from great. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani was about 7.8/10 for me, very nicely done, very well thought out. Chal Mere Bhai, was 7.7/10 for me, I liked it but still mistakes here and there. Kabbie Khushie Kabbie Ghum was 7.4/10 for me, loved some parts, others were boring though. Lagaan was 8.2/10 for me, Ishq was 7.6/10 tough. Quayamat Se Quayamat Tak was 8.2/10 and Jo Jetta Wohi Sikander was 7.9/10. Andaz Apna Apna, was 7.9/10 and Baazigar was 7.9/10. Khakee was 7.6/10 and Dil Ka Rishta was 7.9/10. Bobby and Namak Halal were equally rated in my opinion by me, as 7.9/10. Devdas and Humtare Hain Sanam were 7.7/10.

Well the only American movie sing-alongs that I've seen were probably Mamma Mia and Grease. Bollywood films are not worse than American films just because they have more songs, they are just different. You have probably seen the bad movies, watch dilwale dulhaniya le jayenge, that is a really good film came out in 1995 but amazing and mind-blowing. you have to see it, must-see for anyone doubting bollywood films.

Wasn't there a Bollywood movie of some kind starring American Marisa Tomei? I think it was called "The Guru" or something.

Bollywood movies suck. Period. You get the occasional gem like Saawariya (Beloved)
I should know. I live in the Indian capital of New Delhi after all

The movies are primarily made for non-city folk who go to theaters to forget about their extremely harsh lives for 2 hours. Or the older generations. The filmmakers are only interested in money and most of the actors save a few are unlikeable jerks or can't act all together.

Bollywood films use female charecters like set pieces.
The song and dance nonsense is getting old.
Half the films end with a stupid marriage or something...

ARRRGHHHH!!!

Also, I've never seen a Bollywood film, but I'd be open to watching one.

First of all, thank god for this thread! I've been a closet Bollywood fan since hardly anyone I know (who is not Asian) are into it like I am but I've managed to convert a few of my non-Asian friends. I was first exposed to Bollywood when I lived in Asia for 4 years and the film that captured my interest and turned me into a fan was the one you mentioned below, DDLJ. Whenever I hear songs from the film soundtrack, I get goosebumps.

As for Slumdog Millionaire, I like it. A LOT! Although I don't consider it a typical Bollywood movie.

The films bolded, I've seen all of them and enjoyed them very much. I'd say my top 3 Bollywood films would be 1) DDLJ, 2) KKHH and 3) Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham (sp?). If you noticed, I am sure you do, all three paired Shah Rukh with Kajol. They're my favorite Bollywood pair. I also love the pairing of Aishwarya and Salman in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Another one of my favorite Bollywood movie.

I love those 2 actresses, especially Madhuri. OMG! I don't care what anyone thinks but I think she's the most beautiful and talented actress in Bollywood. I LOVE watching her dance, especially classical Indian dance. And her megawatt smile, its infectious and I bet she lights up any room she walks into with that beautiful smile. As a woman, I am not ashamed to admit that I think I've got a crush on her.

Hahaha! Sometimes that can get annoying and when the songs seem to have nothing to do with the scene before it, it's just downright ridiculous but I find that to be the charm of Bollywood. I guess for me, it's something... different. I enjoy the custome changes during a song. The song would be like... 5 minutes and they'd have at least a half dozen costume changes and maybe the same number of different locations in one song.

I happen to like the ones that deal with family issues. The ones that reflect the Indian culture. I love action movies, too, so if you know any good Bollywood action movies, recommend to me? The last time Bollywood film I watched was over a year ago, Dhoom 2, when I traveled to Singapore and watched it at a friend's home on DVD. Dang, that Hrithik dude sure can move. A looker and a good actor to boot. I saw him in Mission Kashmir and Fiza and liked both films, too. There's another film I saw with Shak Rukh that dealt with terrorism. The one where he was singing and dancing on a train to the song "Chaiya Chaiya". I forgot the film title. Do you know what film I'm talking about?

DBella, if you like the actor Hrithik Roshan then you may be interested in the movie Krrish, which is an Indian superhero film. It's filled with cheese (IMO) but you may like it. It's actually a squel to the movie Koi...Mil Gaya, so you may want to check that one out first if you haven't seen either of them yet. I believe they're even making another sequel called Krrish 2.

One of the top Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor is making a splash in Hollywood on the Fox TV Show "24" where there is a chance he gets yelled at by Jack Bauer. He was just cast for the new season of the hit show.

Of course, he plays a Middle Easterner.

I've seen Koi... Mil Gaya. That's the one with the alien that looks like ET, right? Not checked out the sequel yet. Superhero? I'll have to check that out. However, over here where I'm currently at (Japan), I've not found a store where I can rent Bollywood films. When I lived in VA, I used to go to this Indian grocery store like... once a week to rent. At first they found it odd that a white chick would be interested in Indian films, they were curious and asked a lot of questions. I felt interrogated, but by friendlies, so I didn't mind. I don't mind cheesy when I expect cheesy. In fact, when I expect cheesy, I better get cheesy!
