Captain Lennox Thread... and Spike theory..

Noticed there wasn't a thread for Captain Lennox...

After watching Revenge of the Fallen it's come to my attention at how similar Lennox is to Spike from the cartoons. Has anyone else made that connection?

Personally, I would have rather the sequel focused more on Lennox&Gang than Sam. In fact I find Sam to be very far from the Spike character and Lennox closer to the characterization. Especially since Lennox seems to be in the trenches with the Transformers similar to the iconic Spike.

Would be nice if the next installment they gave us more Lennox than Witwicky.

No, because
1) he wants a normal life
2) he has no military training
3) the movie would consist of two types of scenes: Battle scenes and base scenes. Do you really want to see a movie focusing on robots and the military alone? It would be 2 dimensional.
4) Lennox and Tyrese are in the movie exactly for that. Sam has his own role and you dont need to make him another Lennox or a hacker. His role is to be the normal kid that gets to hang with giant robots.

I have no interest in a movie about the military and the autobots fighting the decepticons. Sam keeps it grounded and relatable. Some of the best scenes of the two movies are his.

I wasnt chastising you, just stating my opinion. For me, Sam's arc is just as interesting as Prime's. I can really relate to him and have no interest in the generic soldiers. Sure Lennox was great (especially his relationship and friendship with the autobots) but its Sam that makes the movie for me. His normal geeky life, how he gets the courage to stand up to Megatron, how he is tangled up in all of this without being a soldier, whose job is fighting.
Sam's life serves the same purpose as Parker's, Wayne's or Kent's normal life. Its our chance to take a break from the serious plot and the action. I dunno, i couldnt watch a movie with only the robots or the robots and the army.

Btw, some of the best scenes in the franchise for me are Sam and Bee hanging out. Hitting on Mikaela, Bee killing the kitchen bots, Bee showing up on campus, etc...

I always liked Sam's character other than the fact that he ends up getting the girl He didn't have to try too hard to impress Mikaela but nonetheless the two of them discovered an alien 'robot' race together. Sam is more central to the stories of TF and ROTF and thats what I love about the films. I also care about those who are part of his life but for me what gets me the most is the friendship between Sam and Bumblebee, Sam and Mikaela and Sam and Optimus.

Totally. What this franchise has is the element of awe. I was thinking yesterday that no matter how hard Ironman 2 tries, it cant beat the TF in action. They are many, they have a variety of shapes, they transform, etc. The movie can be awesome, can have plot, etc, but there are very few things that can compare with TF on the scale and cool factor.

But what TF dont have is relatability. You can love Prime and the others as much as you want, the movie could have the best of plots and character development for them, but you need some humans as glue that will make it all work and enable the audience to relate to all that. And you cant do that with soldiers. Sam is perfect for this role and even though it takes some suspension of disbelief to buy that he met Megatron twice (three if you count Megatron chasing him in the desert) and he still breaths, the writers somehow succeeded in getting him involved in all the action.

I think that the forest scene was more dramatic and realistic only because he was there to act as a foil for the robots' size and threat level. (it didnt necessarily have to be him though. Any human could work)

I thought it was emotional that Sam witnessed Prime's death. I felt so bad for him and the scenes after that when Sam blamed himself and will turn himself in but Bumblebee said "We gotta stick together...". Just shows how much Bee cares more about Sam and that he doesn't blame him for Prime's death.

Has nothing to do with who is better looking (although Duhamel is 1000x better looking than LaBeouf). It's just that Lennox has more balls and intrigue than Sam does.

Yea... I think zany is sort of what Bay is going for, as much as some people would like, I can't imagine this movie with an all serious main protagonist. Sam has both qualities, he has his kookiness which tax up most of the movie, but he is also serious when need to be. Honestly I can go without Lennox in the movie...ROTF anyway... but I do like J.D. I think he's a great actor.

And I don't see where Bay did Lennox more justice, please elaborate?
