I agree with Havok. Games cease to be fun when I'm doing the same **** over and over again.

That's pretty much what you are doing with video-game checkpoint or not. I don't see why simply adding an option to remove or at the very least, reduce the amount of checkpoints would be so difficult to implement. The later Tomb Raider games have no tension mostly because of this.

No. If I make it across a harrowing jump, I'm feeling that tension, and THEN it's gone when I have to do that **** over again, because I missed the next jump. It's annoying.

I'm consciously aware of no game-play repercussions for failing and thus: no sense of achievement for succeeding.

They could add customizable difficulty settings with a harder setting limiting the number of checkpoints in the game, but they shouldnt completely remove them. There should always be a checkpoint right before and after a particular difficult section. For example, a series of jumps, boss battle, enemy ambush, etc...

This is one of the games i really want to see getting right.
Lara Croft, imo, is one of the best video characters there is, and i really want her to get back to form. I really like that Crystal Dynamics are going with the restart angle, to start with the origin.

The recently released images look so awesome. I'm really looking forward to this game now! I love the idea of a survival game.

I think she looks more like Lara's original model: Rhona Mitra.

I think they should remove the checkpoint system altogether and just allow you to save whenever you want, especially if it's gonna be a big open environment rather than separate levels chopped into segments.

I think the easiest way Tomb Raider could improve is to take a page from Modern Warfare or Uncharted in presentation. Set pieces are the key. TR still relies on the old "do something, switch to cutscene, back to gameplay, switch to cutscene, etc." model. They need to start integrating all that cool stuff directly into the gameplay, so that one minute you're climbing a big rock and the next minute there's a rockslide about to crush you unless you swing over to where the camera is showing you within like 3 seconds. Underworld had a few tentative steps toward that--Amanda's sinking ship capsizing while you're still aboard, the few bullet-time segments where you have to act before whatever slow-mo danger kills you, etc. But it didn't quite go far enough to really grab players' attention. I still enjoyed it, but that's probably because I'm a big fan of Tomb Raider from the very first game.

Yeah, that was a cool moment. Although I chuckled a bit when the ridiculousness of the situation set in. It was an ancient Atlantean goddess taunting an archaeologist/adventurer who happens to look like a top-heavy supermodel from inside of what was basically a giant fishbowl, after all.

IA as well. Tomb Raider can be an epic experience but the presentation keeps it from being so. One of the most memorable moments from the series was seeing the T-Rex for the first time in the first game. I wish they had more oh sh-t moments like that

I think everyone got a good **** in your pants moment at that T-Rex. The only other moment in gaming that scared me like that is when I found the Nemesis follows you from room to room in Resident Evil 3 if you run from him.

Maybe we will see the birth of a new genre, the survival game.
Sure, we already have the survival horror, but one about actual survival....i canīt remember one, and it there is one, maybe this game will make it more mainstream. This game and the I am Alive from Ubisoft (if it gets released one day)

I do not like the character model they have decided to settle with, Lara Croft should look unattainable to a man and this character design looks like she could be very attainable in real life. That said its a gorgeous design and i look forward to the game.
