2 Va. Tech Students Found Slain in Forest By DENA POTTER , AP posted: 1 HOUR 19 MINUTES AGO comments: 308 filed under: Crime News, National News RICHMOND, Va. (Aug. 28) - Authorities stepped up patrols Friday near an area of Jefferson National Forest where a Virginia Tech couple described by their minister as "godly young people" were found slain. A man walking his dog early Thursday found the bodies of David Lee Metzler, 19, of Lynchburg and Heidi Lynn Childs, 18, of Forest in the parking lot of a day use area and campground that is a popular hangout for Virginia Tech students. (There's more to the article if you follow the link.) I'm not sure what's going on with the school or the area that surrounds it, but god damn! Can they ever get a break?? I hope they catch this freak that did it.. My heart goes out to the family of both..

Well thats not good. And kinda creepy bc I actually went camping for my first time out there not too long ago.
I have two friends that are juniors going to VT. I call them up in a couple days and see if they have heard of them.

Can't blame this on VT though didn't happen that close to the school. It certainly is sad but the Virginia BCI is top notch in my opinion, I'm sure that they will catch the killer.

I know it's not the school's fault or anything, but I know I'd think twice about applying there after all that's happened.

You're probably not alone. I have a few friends who used to attend there but transferred after the last incident.

I don't think it's odd that their minister said that.

It seems like it would be a nice school if you could make it to class alive. |

That doesn't change the fact that it's entirely irrelevant to the case.
I also find it odd that the minister would be the first person to comment on it

And?
I'm sorry that those kids died but I doubt they're the first student who went to that school and got murdered. The connection is only made because of the school shooting that took place a couple years ago. |

The article states that the kids were heavily involved in their church and possibly looking to serve in some kind of ministry/outreach after college. So their faith meant a lot as brief character sketches (murder articles always have these) and their pastor was a logical person with which to speak. He likely has training in how to deal with traumatic situations and the family may be too grief-stricken to make statements.
