That is true actually, even in the early 60's stories, Peter wasnt that happy-go-lucky. He was still cracking jokes but it was more of a sarcastic type of humor. I think Bendis is the one who really invented the "happy-go-lucky silly" Spiderman with Ultimate Spiderman. Bendis' spiderman is very immature and cracks a ton of silly dumb jokes. Thats fine for his spiderman though, but that humor doesnt translate well with the 616 version.
