I was wondering what you guys consider to be the cream-of-the-crop in terms of GL graphic novels and trade paper backs. I don't currently own any, and I was wondering where the best place to start would be. Thanks in advance!

I got started with Rebirth, then GLC Recharge, then carried on with Green Lantern and GLC on goings up until present.
They fill you in on the past and all that as well. Like in the Secret Origins arc. |

I just got started with the Sinestro Corp War GNs. I never read GL, but I knew a lot about his history (I am that way with a lot of characters), so I just started there and I had no problems keeping up with the story.

I started with Secret Origins, then read Rebirth, then Sinestro Corp Wars. Must have been a good start, because now i'm hooked.

I just picked up Rebirth today, wow. It's the best graphic novel I own.
I love it!And I had no other GL graphic novels, it pretty much explains what you've missed if you didn't read the older issues, which is awesome! ![]() I'd definitely recommend starting with Rebirth. |

I figured this was the best place to post this question, rather than start a new topic.
I haven't read much in the way of comics since around the end of Infinite Crisis (I know i know, funds got tight my last year of college, then I ended up just picking up Vertigo stuff as it struck my fancy in trades). Anyway, I want to catch up, and the Sinestro War and Blackest night all looks awesome, I just don't know where to start, as I suspect there are mini series and ongoings that tie in to both events (I read Rebirth when it came out, awesome). So who can point me in the right direction? I probably had a subscription to both GLC and GL up until right before the Sinestro Corps were formed (I remember cyborg superman reemerging) so I know the history. Should I just pick up trades as I see them pertaining to Sinestro war? I'm going to have a look myself, you guys point me in the right direction! Thanks |

I absolutely loved Emerald Dawn. The sequel was decent but now out of print, so I'd recommend just going after the original books. The O'Neil/Adams collects are a little overrated IMHO opinion in terms of the writing, but the artwork is fantastic. And if you wanna go all the way back you could pick up either The Green Lantern Chronicles or the Green Lantern Showcase Presents.

Showcase Presents Green Lantern is fantastic stuff. The 60's comics with Gil Kane were very influential, with continuing storylines and soap operatics before even Stan Lee started doing them. The plots are classic 50's style sci-fi, full of bizarre giant monsters from space tearing up cities, gangsters, and weird alternate universes.
This is definetly where I would start anyone reading Green Lantern.

Liked it a lot better than Emerald Dawn even though both origins have their strong points.I have every issue of Green Lantern from Volume 2 through to Blackest Night.I also have every Green Lantern Corps up until the most recent. My question is where is the best point,in your opinion,to start reading Green Lantern after reading Secret Origin to get the ABSOLUTE best feel for the character?Thank you for any help you can provide.

I started reading Green Lantern comics when Rebirth was released back in 2004. I would say start with that. Secret Origins was very well written too, and the art matched the story well. Sinestro Corps War is good.

I want the new Silver age Hal Jordan Omnibus so bad.
From Showcase 22 and 20ish issues into the ongoing Green Lantern vol 2. Johns made me a Lantern freak with rebirth when I was getting bored with comics, so I really want to read the first stories. |

We're still waiting on Geoff Johns' (Possible) Secret origins 2.
In the meantime, you should check out Hal's pre-crisis origin story "Emerald Dawn". It's no Secret Origins but it's still a decent read and full of Lantern-y goodness. |

Hey I can't figure out the next Green Lantern trades.
The Next Green Lantern book ends at the start of the war of the green lanterns storyline. But the coming Green Lantern Corps HC ends at #52. That leaves a significant gap - a whole 2. trade actually till the start of War of the Lanterns. I'm wondering if they just skip the missing corps issues and go straight to war of Lanterns? |

Based on the recommendations here, I've just bought both Secret Origins and Rebirth, quite looking forward to reading those. I want to read the Blackest Night stuff eventually, but I'm a bit behind on most things!

I'm trying to read everything there is before I buy all the Blackest Night trades. Going with issue numbers I've got Sinestro Corp War, Tales of the Sinestro Corp, Secret Origins and Rage of the Red Lanterns.
What comes next? Agent Orange, Blackest Night or other? |
