Superman is in no way a "dark" character.

Why should he be dark? He was raised by great, loving parents and had another set of parents who went to great lengths to save his life. He's got powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men and is as human as anyone, more human even.

Superman's greatest power, the thing that makes him the best superhero of them all is that he's Clark Kent. and always remembers that the "man" is more important than the "super."

I wouldn't mind seeing a dark Superman IF it's an alternate universe Superman that the main Superman encounters at some point. Like the Justice Lords.

Making Superman dark would be taking the lazy, easy way out. It's not hard to make a dark character badass. I would love to see how a director would make Superman badass while still maintaining his essential lightheartedness, optimism, and goodness.

If Superman's dark side, his potential to control and be terrifying to others isn't explored, I think they'd miss a golden opportunity. That doesn't mean that's all he should be, or what he should be most of the time, but I think it has to be touched on.

From a certain point of view, this pic can be frightening:

It's okay to have some "I'm glad this guy is on our side" kind of moments.

Some hokiness here, particularly the gorilla fight, but the badass attitude is always present.

Exactly.

Or some "Whose side is he on?"

Same here. I'd basically love a Superman like he was in the first comic books.

yea that is one thing like i keep saying it would be great if they take stories and character aspects/traits from a wide range of the superman eras. So we can have an interesting take on the character.

You sure about that? Superman was kind of an ass in the the Golden Age, especially early on.

I agree....Like Miller's Batman.....Being in an alternative universe.

And El Payso I agree I been saying it for years now I want golden age Superman!....He still was light toned, patriotic, aiding service men and defending USA, but also a badass....Beating up hate groups, wife beaters and corrupt politicans.

Yes, I certainly am behind having a some moments in the film where he seems that Badass.

When he confronts a supervillain, that should be exactly the feeling we get.

A simple compromise could be having Clark Kent be the lighthearted one, and Superman the badass. Then fans can endlessly debate which is the "real" one.

Yes, and this side of Superman would have even more of an impact if he's been portrayed as a basically nice, even-tempered hero during the rest of the movie.
