Yelchin has played at least two "little brother" roles that I can think of. He was great in Terminator Salvation as the young counterpart. On Star Trek, he felt like the baby brother of the cast, too.
True, and they've got an established rapport too, from Fierce People:

Though their characters were quite different from Cap and Bucky, lol.

I agree that it would be hard to buy Yelchin as a badass, though. He does have quite the wimpy voice.

IIRC it was at most a 4 year difference, I think its 3. BUcky joined when he's 16 , cap joined when he was 18. And according to brubaker cap had allready had the shield for a year maybe 2.

Thats why I dont get yelchin for bucky. IMO you guys are casting bucky too much as a sidekick. With brubakers run, bucky is now more of an assasin version of cap. He was a partner not a sidekick. I think the route to go with cap is if you cast cap just 2 or 3 years younger

Bucky was 16, Cap is like 18 or so.

Emile as Bucky? I don't know...I really don't....I'd have to warm up to it.

thanks for the answers guys, i was just wondering what the difference was between cap and bucky. So yea i am sure character wise cap will probably be like 21-24 yrs old at the start of the film and if the film ends around 1945 or so probably be like 26-28 yrs old. So that would probably put bucky at end of the film around 22-23. Cant wait to see how they will play out both.

Has it been confirmed yet by any source that Bucky is definitely IN the movie? Just want to double check.

Despite that superb IGN article and its argument for Bucky...

http://comics.ign.com/articles/107/1079435p1.html

I hope Bucky is just a cameo and a nod to fans or placement for future flashbacks. There's too much ground to cover with this Cap origin film. They need to do HIM proper character development. I can't see how they can do that and give Brubaker's Bucky proper play. (Plus mix in some Invaders) I say give Bucky the Rhodes treatment from Iron Man. "Next time baby."

Nah, IMO Bucky is a huge part of Caps origin. If Cap is the biggest role, Bucky should be the second biggest. I don't see how that would be a problem.

Yeah. Bucky is one of the characters that helps define Captain America. We don't need some whole back story. The easiest way to do it, is have Bucky & Steve already friends, even before Steve becomes Captain America. Them two being friends, they both are picked to be apart of Operation: Rebirth. Steve goes first, and pretty sure you know what would happen after that.L

Feige already confirmed Bucky is in the movie so arguing for or against Bucky is ridiculous.

Default Who should play James "Bucky" Barnes?

Now that Captain America has found its lead actor, it's time to pick which actor should play Rogers' sidekick, I mean, ally James Barnes.

I'm actually loving the idea of Efron playing Bucky. It would be a win-win situation for everyone.

I'd actually be ok with Efron, but I'm really hoping for Scott Melchowicz, best known for Eurotrip and Mean Creek.

I really like Efron for Bucky as well but I voted for Sebastian Stan. Efron in Cap would definitely bring publicity to the film and it is not at the expense of acting ability as I believe Efron has it in him to put forth a good performance. The problem I have with Efron is that I believe that he will be looked at to headline a comic book movie at some point and Bucky is likely a one shot deal. Stan has a decent look for Bucky, athletic but not a bigger physical presence than Cap and I don't think he will wanted for another major comic book character.

I'd be okay with Efron, aactually. Usually I'm very against these teeny-bopper types, but I a good vibe from him.

JGL is too old. He looks the same age as Evans. Bucky is supposed to be the younger sidekick with an attitude.
