If it makes you feel better, a third party getting .98% of the vote is a good thing.

Nearly 1.2 Million votes is good as well.

I hope the GOP isn't smart enough to absorb the LP...

On a random note, today I spoke with a friend on the phone. We briefly discussed the election, but he didn't know who Gary Johnson or Jill Stein are.

It's not true.

It's not that they system is rigged, and that's why people don't vote.

It's that people don't vote, and therefore let the system get rigged. Then they complain about the system being rigged, but don't put in the effort to change things.

Take a guess who controls the rules of the elections? The Republicans and Democrats. They have done all they can to ensure that no party will come up and become a legitimate challenger because it's going to come at their expense. It's why it's tough for third parties to get on the ballot and for those it is easy (such as in New York), they're forced to endorse the major party candidates.

The system is horribly rigged, but it's not by some crazy conspiracy or anything, it's by the people who are out in the open and in power.

It's pretty simple. The terrorists won.

Their job is to instill terror, and they did.

And not only did we accept safety over freedom, but we swallowed the line that it was the patriotic thing to do.

We've lost out balls.

200+ years ago we put our asses on the line for what we believe and said "No more."

150+ years ago two sides put their asses on the line and said "No more."

70+ years ago we put our asses on the line for what we believe and said "No more."

50 years ago the minority parts of our country said "No more," and dragged everyone else into the 20th century with them.

Now...we just roll over because we're too scared to get hurt and don't want anything to disrupt our 'reality' tv.

Gary on why he lost. The Man is honest. Says his time while he was campaigning wasn't spent well and he sucks at raising money. Give him a A for being honest.

I think the GOP is more obsessed with absorbing Latinos than Libertarians.

Plus absorbing Libertarians would require some serious policy changes the GOP would never consider. I think it's far easier for them to court millions of Latinos with a Latino presidential candidate.

I don't think that the Republicans need to bring Libertarians INTO the party, they just need to get their vote. If the GOP Presidential Candidate truly has a history of Fiscal Conservative ideas and policy, and stays on those topics rather than trying to court the religious right (which will vote for them anyway because they have an (R) next to their name), then they could get quite a few of those Libertarian votes as well as Independent voters. It is such an easy, clear picture of what they need to do that it blows my mind that they keep going back to the same old crap.

It's weird because I think the reason we are not getting those candidates that can hold that middle ground is because of opposite reasons, the Dems get the more liberal of their choices because of the caucus system and the Reps get the more religious right of their choices because of their primary system. Voters like myself end up with nothing to choose from except the lesser of the two evils in most cases.

I don't see Libertarians supporting anyone socially conservative in the near future. And just about every Republican sub-group (the religious right, tea party, neo-conservative) are socially conservative on everything from abortion to drugs to war to censorship to domestic spying to gay marriage except for Libertarians. When it comes to social issues those other sub-groups throw "small government" rhetoric right out the window and become a dangerous enemy to any social Libertarian. Just as dangerous as nanny state Democrats.

Lets not forget, many Libertarians considered Rand Paul a traitor to their cause for simply endorsing Mitt Romney. Why would they back anyone from the Tea Party or GOP?

Well, if Clinton is the (D) candidate then it will be very hard. If it is someone that is further left, then it is possible to get some of their votes.

And read my post again, I did not say the Libertarian vote as a whole, simply a few of those votes, and they can get quite a bit of the Independent vote. The Libertarians that I run with do not believe for one second that there will be a 3rd party, or that they will totally change the GOP, they are working at the state level because they know that their socially liberal/fiscally conservative ideas work better at that level of government, so they are looking at the moment for the most fiscally conservative, get us the hell out of the Middle East candidate that there is...so, you get a solid GOP candidate in there that is ALL ABOUT energy independence, and TRUE fiscal conservative ideas, you will have someone that can get those votes or at least a better % than the last 2 candidates were able to get.

This weekend, the Republican Party of Texas is meeting with Gary Johnson.

Quote:
Well somebody’s happy out there: that would be Gary Johnson, the former Libertarian candidate for president who appears poised to do it all over again for 2016. Mr. Johnson will be in Texas all weekend, appearing Friday at an oyster lunch followed by a bustling “Liberty Forum” in Houston that appears to include a cast of thousands, plus his vice presidential running mate Jim Gray and Steve Munisteri, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.
So no one aswered my last post, but it's this weekend...what is going on? Something is a foot. Afoot? Oh NEVERMIND, this explains it.

http://www.sacbee.com/2014/01/14/607...ed-by-ben.html

Quote:
HOUSTON, Jan. 14, 2014 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Moderated by two-time Emmy award winning investigative journalist Ben Swann, a Liberty Forum will take place in Houston on January 17, 2014 at King Street Patriots. Speakers include a variety of candidates running for local, state and national offices as well as national political figures that will discuss their viewpoints on topics most affecting personal liberty today. Organizers include the Republican Liberty Caucus, Liberty on the Rocks Houston, and Our America Initiative.
Johnson is like the founder or chairman of the Our America Initiative.

And...

Quote:
Sponsors of this event include: Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition (RAMP), Louisiana Nesco Ltd, Paul Simpson for GOP Chair, Gary B. Dannar RFC, Libertarian Party, and Donna Piñon Realtor.
But still....Texas GOP teaming up with the LP?!
