Because Lucas got more concious of what kids would take away from his films after he had kids of his own.
In retospect he did not like the idea that one of the lead heros would just blast a bad guy who did not fire on him first. It would be like a little kid being taught to throw the first punch in a fight.
This, despite the fact that little kids, myself included, took in the fact that Greedo had a gun trained on solo, and had said that the idea was to get the bounty 'over his dead body'.
So, in the end it was a dumb overprotective move that made a cool scene look awkward and confusing.
Lucas was quoted saying the stuff about being more concious about that stuff in a Lucas bio I read.

I Am Legend question; Why are there Lions in Times Square?

It requires little stretch of the imagination to assume they escaped from a zoo amid the "zompire" chaos but am I to believe that they're immune to a disease effecting humans, rats and dogs? That seems like a varied enough range of mammals to include an aggressive, territorial, semi-nocturnal predator like the lion. But even more than that, I ask because, living in Brooklyn, the only reason I don't freeze to death over a NY winter is indoor heating. What's a large, sub-saharan animal's excuse?

Why are the police in the Saw movies so damn incompetent?

How were the Jedi killed by a bunch of storm troopers that couldn't shoot the broad side of Luke Skywalker while he was standing still?

Why did Quill think porcupine needles would intimidate someone who can control fire?

Why did Multipleman position himself so close to the obvious diversion the military unit easily should have predicted? Why didn't he arrange it so he could escape in the chaos of ... himself, or hide somewhere else? Why didn't he even try?

Why does the lighlty philisophical narrative of the Matrix get extremely pseudo-philisophical during the sequels?

Why couldn't Tia Dalma save Jack Sparrow without going to World's End like she did with Barbosa? Why couldn't they save Elizabeths father? And why is Davy Jones Locker so empty if it's the place for resting souls? Why did the Black Pearl end up there?

Why the hell didn't Harry Osbournes butler speak up sooner?

Why did Halle Berry get an oscar for doing the job of a porn star? I think Sasha Grey or Aliana Love are a bit more deserving in that regard.
