My idea would be to have flashbacks ala the first season of lost. Even then they would be flashbacks that are pertanent to the main story. In the version i've been working on off and on the flashbacks would be more about Johnathan Kent and the lessons he taught him along with Jor -El's lesson's in the FOS . This is because the first film is about Clark's idealism meeting with reality and about Clark making mistakes and learning that he can't change the world on his own. Therefore the flashbacks that make the most sense are those that pertain to past lessons he learned and what shaped his ideas.

Part two with Brainac as the villan , would feature flashbacks that focus more on Krypton's destruction and Brainac role in it , along with Jor El sending Kal El to earth. Maybe some Zod stuff hinted at for part three.

Anyway those examples of how I would do the origin. That way the origin doesn't sort of delay the main story or shorten it , but serves to move the story forward. Since the movie going public knows Superman's origin , you can at least connect bits of his backstory into the main narrative instead of the main narrative being delayed for the backstory.

that sounds like a good idea there man. but yea like i said what ever type of film the next one is we need to have some sort of origins played into the film to be one of the many things in the film that will help define this film is different from other supes films.

Sorry dude but no, clartk doesn't don the suit just because he has developed one power... he slowly developes his powers as a teenager and young man, helping people where he can, each heroic feat gets bigger and better until he is exposed - that's where he decides to use the disguis - superman.

But, appreciate where you are coming from - maybe have a doomsday style creature and clark realises he is only one who may be able to defeat him - bit similar as incredible hulk though.

Maybe in real time, clark is about 18/19 when 9/11 happened, the hightened security threats in major cities pulls clark to stay in a city.. to protect it, incase anything happens again..just an angle...

i know clark doesn't don the suit after developing one power i just happened to say superman instead of clark. i'll be more specific next time.

but wouldn't it be interesting to see clark who hasn't learned the superpower ropes yet have doomsday thrown into his face and deal with it?
also, by introducing doomsday in the first movie then having him back when he fights superman to the death could show off his regeneration and reactive adaptation ability; something they didn't really delve into with the superman: doomsday movie.

maybe the plot could be something along the lines of the "if you could travel back in time would you kill Hitler" idea. a supervillain, Brainiac, travels back in time to when Kal-el's ship lands and tries to kill him then but the Legion interferes. we get some action right off the bat when Kal-el lands on earth. also, maybe the Legion can tease the audience with events to come in Kal-el's future.

if they do an origin reboot i think they should introduce the villain early not just to show to the audience that its not Lex Luthor again but to not to let the audience wonder during the whole pre-expolsion thing and his time in smallville who or what can stand up against the god-like superman.

well i doubt they want to through legion and stuff like that into first film. it would be a fun thing to play around with in a sequel or something and superman goes back in time to make sure events play out like they should.

the thing I find about avoiding the origin to go straight into some point in Superman's career is that you're skipping stuff that needs to be set-up. for example, bonds need to be formed between characters so that if anything bad happens it will mean a lot more. its like jumping into a tv show that another family member watches when a character's death occurs; seeing the death or the other character's reactions to it won't mean much to you but for the other family member whose watched these character's from the beginning it will mean more.

oh totally wattaborwnsound i been saying that myself for awhile. We need a new origin to set up these characters and why they are different then reeve/routh's movie and to set up storylines and future characters for sequels or what not.

I don't have a clue which one I would want they all sound like they would work well! Although flashbacks may be the easiest one as it will allow the story to develop sooner.

yea i do prefer linear myself. But i am totally open for any story telling technique to be used. I just hope they make it work well and it flows good.

if they don't tell the story in linear fashion starting pre-explosion and they don't use the Brainiac from STAS would there be another of finding what happened before Kal-el's ship crashed on Earth?

Sure, whenever he finds the fortress of Solitude and it activates it reveals teh final days of krypton. Perhaps teh final moments were recorded by his ship as he left the planet. A cool holographic view wtih clark experiencing it as if he was there would be visually amazing. Also i like the idea of us as an audience finding out these powerful revelations with clark instead of before him. It would help us relate to the character and understand his reactions to it as we'd be experiencing the same thing similtaneously.

The other thing i could see is something like what happened on the animated series when he met braininac. He somehow taps into the information braininac has and can see what happened to krypton that way.

Either way i think seeing it with the character vs before is more engaging. I like the mystery you're left with by not seeing everything up front.
