Default The Vulture - his motivations, his goals, etc.

Considering he has basically been verified as being in the flick, what do you think should be his overall master plans? Gobby wanted to take the city by storm and be the most powerful in and out of the suit, Doc Ock wanted to complete his experiments and be known as an intellectual superior regardless of who got hurt, Sandman wanted to save his daughter, and Venom just decided to basically cause damage, period. In the Malkovich thread, it was suggested that he could possibly want to become somewhat of a huge player in NYC's underworld, possibly even battling it out with the mob for control, which sounds decent enough. Spidey would simply be the main obstacle that keeps them all from doing their business.

He wants to make a giant flock of Vulturions, and they will make him a giant nest on top of the Empire State Building, where he will feather it with ill gotten gains

Seriously, Vulture has dabbled in alot in the comics. He's been about revenge, getting his foot in the door of the underworld, petty theft, and he's even had a few sympathetic stories, too.

Whatever the theme of the movie is, Peter's journey/lesson, Vulture's story will somehow reflect that.

I'd say stick with they original origin...
Quote:
Adrian Toomes was...a former electronics engineer who was once the business partner of a man named Gregory Bestman; Bestman handled the finances while Toomes, the inventions. One day, after creating a flight harness, Toomes eagerly rushed into Bestman's office to share the happy news. However, Bestman was not there, and Toomes discovered that Bestman had secretly been embezzling funds and that Toomes had no legal recourse. Enraged, He then decided to turn to crime professionally as the Vulture.

something like this kinda sounds right up Raimi's alley

They may have to expand on that a little. He went to crime a little fast in that origin.

well, ya, they'd have to add to it abit more, or have him seek revenge on his out partner (though, that does kinda sound like GG's story for the first movie) something like that

change it up to fit they story, but, still the same basic idea

I liked Raimi's original idea that he had already been put in prison by Spidey and escapes with the help of another villain (Electro would fit the bill).

Either Shocker or Electro would fit there, but I don't think those are big name enough... I really wanted an epic villain... and although these villains familiar - I just don't feel like they can hold a movie together...

I would say the same for the lizard, but he has "been" in all three movies thus far... I just don't want to watch another "episode" of spider-man, you know?

if they do something like that, they could always just go a back a say he was Marko’s cell mate who escaped along with him, an is still loose...

though, I was actually just thinking the other day, about how in 3 they said that Marko confessed to his cell mate, about killing Ben, if he only told his cell mate, how'd they'd find out?, unless, his cell mate ratted on him…

and why would a prisoner rat out his cell mate, unless he was getting something in return, like, maybe, early release (or at least a good word at his next parole hearing)

Would be fine with the idea Raimi had for him for part 3. Would like to see the Vulture as a puppeteer of a more powerful, but unstable villain. Electro would be ideal for this plot, even better than the Sandman, as was Raimi's original idea. Vulture would be frightened and jealous of Electro's limitless power, and would try to use it through his intelligence and mind games. Being the engineer and technician he could promise Electro some means to contain his energy within; manipulating him in thinking those raw energies will consume him in the end.

I think he could leak weaponry to the underworld that appears to belong to a rival corporation in an attempt to ruin their reputation for whatever reason. It could be the original reason he was put in jail, if they want to adapt his role from the early drafts of Spider-Man 3. That way you could have Spider-Man going up against Shocker early on, and learning who Schultz got his blaster-gauntlets from.

By putting Spider-Man "through the gauntlet" so to speak, the writers could test Mary Jane's love for Peter...she would have to deal with the fact that her beloved is involved in a pretty dangerous line of work and that she could easily wake up or come home from the job to discover she's a widow.

I think this story would've worked better in Spider-Man 3, with Toomes making a final attack against OsCorp to bring them down and finish off the corporation for good.

If Vulture is the only villain: The first Vulture comic I ever read was Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man. In that book the Vulture is shown as a cold and cruel character the entire story but after Spider-Man saves a few police officers in a falling helicopter he becomes furious. He later tells Spider-Man that Spider-Man risked his life to save those police officers and their small unimportant lives. When his life was small and unimportant, he wished there was someone to struggle on his behalf but there was no one.

I would show the Vulture as a man who lost everything thanks to his greedy business partner and becomes bitter at the world since he now sees it as a cold and evil place where you have to take what you want. And the existance of a person like Spider-Man enfuriates him because it violates his world view.

If there is a second villain, I think the idea of swapping Sandman with Electro and going with the original plan for S3 might be pretty cool.

I say tie it to the Osborn legacy.

Adrian Toomes would own a company that is taking over the remaining assets from Oscorp, with Harry dead, the majority stock is now open to the public which in turn has allowed Toomes to take control of the company. He is nicknamed, the Vulture, as he picks apart companies financially to make the most profit gain. In dismantling Oscorp, he finds out about the Goblin tech, modifies it to become his flight harness and keeps the green color.

The other Side of Toomes is revealed as he is also running a criminal empire, selling black market weapons to foreign nations. Spider-man gets in his way by preventing a huge weapons trade from going down in the first act.. incidentally, spider-man clues in that the weapons tech is former Oscorp property and looks further to tie it to Toomes.

Toomes is innocent on paper but knowing that Spider-Man could piece things together, he decides to place an underground bounty on his head, Through further research he also finds out that Spider-Man is Peter Parker, as Toomes, he decides to put financial pressure on the Daily Bugle. Picking apart Peter's life in order to finish off the remains.

Too bad it's not a paramount movie, otherwise there could be a SHIELD subplot in there.

Otherwise, I would suggest that Spider-Man receives help from a detective who is also trying to tie Toomes to the weapons shipments by the name of Jean DeWolf

This would culminate in a third act where a spider-man and the vulture engage in an aerial battle at the empire state building where Toomes' plans to assist a terrorist group in destroying it, the result of which causing another 9/11 event, which would put Toomes in a great financial position for selling arms to the American Military and Foreign enemies
