This comic went all Silver Age madness and i love it. I also find it funny how both Neal Adams and Frank Miller have in recent books had an ancient city/civilization beneath a big city. Still we finally learn who the new Batman and Robin are and the story goes forward. Granted i was slightly confused by the Sensei scene. Was he breaking from his own cell or just playing with the inmates' midnds?

#3 (9 in truth) was the most outrageous one yet, i love how both Grant Morrison and Neal Adams are the only writers daring to put Batman in such a out of place situation, so we got Batman with evolved humanoid dinosaurs and cavemen fightning againts Senseis forces, with Wizards and Aliens joining the fight and Batman becoming as powerful as Golden Age Superman, but still getting owned by Sensei.

Man... Adam's art is definitely not what it used to be. For me at least.

Definitely, but i like to remind myself that he is after all 70 years old, but yeah he definitely doesn't do much backgrounds except in some scenes, otherwise it's simple colored background, but i still dig the anatomy, facials and action he does. Honestly it was a shame this suffered such a long delay because the second half of this story is hitting it all arounds, i'm not saying #1-6 we're a mere build up, but the earlier issues and the latter issues enhance each other and give the reader the full story with filled holes to the plot.

It's really nice to see Batman so out of his comfort zone, only Morrison and Adams in recent story telling have done that.

Neal Adams is certainly a hugely influential icon and one of the biggest illustrating talents of his era and I definitely don't think anybody does Neal Adams quite like Neal Adams can, but that said... the above statement is patently false.
I studied illustration all most all my young life, took college courses every summer until I went to actual college and I have to say, there are some sketches posted up on this very page with foreshortening so sloppy my professors would've whooped my ass if I ever tried to turn them in. And some of these faces, jesus... It's definitely not on Sienkiewicz, I mean, I'm looking at my 'Batman Illustrated by Neal Adams vol. 3' right now and his quality has just crumbled.
It actually might be his hands, because illustrating can take a toll on your hand and after doing it full time for so many decades I really would be surprised if it weren't the case. A real shame though.
I'm sure DC doesn't give him a hard time about it, he's Neal friggin' Adams, he's got a hell of a legacy and if they're gonna let him do what he wants more power to 'em, it'll sell some copies.
But mark my words, if this guy weren't a living legend he wouldn't be able to get a job at DC or Marvel with the work on these pages.

Whatever art you or he feels is best comes down to personal preference. It is subjective (is it aesthetically pleasing to you, etc.). To each their own. DC and Marvel give jobs to artists who do a wide variety of art, from realistic to abstract and cartoony. I enjoy a wide variety of art. Of course Neal Adams' art doesn't look the same as it did in the 1970s. He doesn't have the contribution of Dick Giordano since Dick was retired, suffering from lymphoma and later also from leukemia and died in 2010. Neal Adams is inking the majority of the Batman: Odyssey series himself and there is a wide variety of guest inkers on various pages. Neal Adams is not only penciling Batman: Odyssey, he is also writing Batman: Odyssey along with inking the majority of the series himself and he is 70 years old. Other artists his age are either retired or deceased. I'm glad Neal Adams is still around and I appreciate and am enjoying Neal Adams' return to Batman and it's fun to see the artistic contributions of guest inkers Bill Sienkiewicz, Michael Golden, Kevin Nowlan, Scott Williams and Paul Neary.

I'm really torn on this one, guys. By the look of things, this shouldn't be a book I like. The art looks hideous (at least in my eyes) and Bruce does seem to be written very much out of character, with his dude-ish narration and behaviour towards Robin and all that silly silver age stuff with the dinosaurs.

But then Drz describes the book as something Morrison could've written, so thats kinda a heads up for me, because I love Morrisons Batman run, which was also kinda crazy. Maybe I am going to get the Hardcover, but I really don't know if its going to be my kinda Batbook.
