Default Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

Quote:
The title is going to be a download, according to the press release, and will release later this year.

No platforms have been given on the game, but developer Crystal Dynamics has promised the IPs latest adventure will be “different”.

“This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting,” said Darrell Gallagher, Crystal Dynamics boss.

“Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience.”

It’s to be shown behind closed doors at GDC next week.

Hm, interesting. Is this the game that they were making that was going to put an M rated spin on the series?

I think they need to put Lara in the vault for a few years

Why? They really re-surged the games with Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld.

Legend and Anniversary, yes. I found Underworld rather disappointing. The TR franchise has been overdone and feels burnt out. I think giving it a break could be the best thing for it right now, which I thought was what they were planning to do from the last time they talked about it. Crystal Dynamic should go work on a different franchise. Try revitalizing Legacy of Kain or create a new IP and then come back to TR in a few years.

Sorry for asking, but what does IP mean? I'm sure it's not Internet Protocol, lol.

Intellectual Property. In gaming terms, pretty much a new franchise

I guess no-one has posted this, but GameSpot has a better look at the new game.

I'm actually liking the look. Tomb Raider needs a re-invention, and this could well be the boost it needs.

Huh. Diablo Raider, basically? That actually could be pretty cool. I'm gonna keep an eye on this. I don't care that Uncharted and other franchises have upped the ante and done Tomb Raider's schtick better over the years; TR was one of the very first game franchises I really got into, so I'll always give any new games they want to put out a chance.

Totally agree. I may not have liked Underworld much, and your 100% correct when you say Uncharted has destroyed this genre, but I still have a lot of love for Lara. This idea certainly seems like a better fit than the "open world" idea they had going a few months back.

I like that they called it Lara Croft instead of Tomb Raider. They're trying something new and the title reflects that.

Gameplay trailer is out. The game looks like a mix between Diablo II and a shooter. Not sure Im feeling this new direction

Hm, I wished CD would go back to Legacy of Kain, but with series writer Amy Hennig gone ... Soul Reaver 2 is one of my favourite games dammit!

I played teh demo earlier this morning and was very impressed. The game looks to be deep and very well done. Probably best Lara experience in years. Anyone know how long it is?
