Elmore Leonard apparently hates the hat they chose for Raylan on the show, and that's a huge part as to why it was slowly but surely phased out as the episodes went on.

Really? So are they going to give him a different hat in season 2? Or are they just going to have him not wear a hat anymore?

I'd agree that the hat completes the look of the character, but meh, it's not a big deal. Raylan is awesome with or without it.

I really dig this show. I love the bizarre character arc of Boyd. I thought for sure that he was going to have some grand evil scheme up his sleeve, but redeeming him was even more interesting. Also, interested to see how the love triangle works out. Both of the women in Raylan's life are a bit screwy, but I think I'd rather see him end up with Winona since she seems to at least have a brain.

BTW, anyone else think that the actress who plays Winona looks like a slightly older Blake Lively?

I still think it'd be dope to see if Walton Goggins has what it takes to be a good comedic actor. Look at John C. Reily he was always in serious roles in Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Perfect Storm, but then after he was in Talladega Nights they figured out that he had a real knack for comedic stuff. I feel Goggins could be the exact same way and be amazing. I dunno why

But I agree the hat is what makes him badass! I'm telling ya! Timothy Olyphant is one of the few actors that can be in something that is set in present day America, and still make a cowboy hat badass. Raylan needs the hat damnit!!!!

really good show, watching it here in the uk and we are at the part where boyd meets his dad in prison, dont know how manny eps left but will wait and see. is there a date for when season 2 starts in the us?

I think the "right type of hat" complaints are pretty silly. I know that the hat was different in the books, but is it really THAT big a deal?

I guarantee that the majority of people who watch this show have never read the Raylan stories. Hell, most of them probably don't even know that the character wasn't written specifically for TV. I understand Leonard had a very specific vision, but is a hat really THAT big a deal?

Raylan's hat in the show completes the look of the character. To change it at this point would feel strange.

Considering the developers/producers/writers of "Justified" decided to phase the hat out as the episodes went on, based on Leonard's disapproval, yes, I'd say it's THAT big a deal. Their actions answer that question without words.

How are the books?

If Raylan has a hat in the books, then it shouldn't be that hard to just get Raylan another hat. It's not that difficult to imagine scenarios that would need him to buy a new hat.

LOL, I don't know. It's something about the shape of the hat not being exactly as described. Apparently it's not the standard cowboy hat in the books... something more akin to the hat that the cop is wearing in this famous photo:

I think it's a little ridiculous. Sometimes you have to go with what looks the best. I haven't read the books, but given the old western tone of the show, Raylan's hat works perfectly.
