He's rich, and it's a family wealth that he personally increased. He could have two houses. Maybe what becomes Avengers' Mansion is the Stark ancestral home on the east coast.

Wonder how jets take off and land on a moving aircraft carrier as well as people not being blown off. Must moves really slow in the air.

Ultimates had multiple helicarriers. But even if they didn't, that wouldn't effect what they choose to do in the film.

I would LOVE to see Tony either build a mansion for the Avengers or offer his mansion to them.
It would be so cool.
Then you get Jarvis, the computer program interacting with the Avengers.
I really want to see Rick Jones brought in, maybe as a SHIELD liaison, arguing with the computer programmed butler.
It would be hilarious.

He barely even tolerated SHIELD taking over his home for a few days, so I highly doubt Tony would stand for half a dozen superheroes running around his house either. Out of anything to pull from the Ultimates books, I hope something similar to the Triskelion is used, just to give SHIELD some credibility as a government agency, and so the Avengers could be introduced to this new world they've been brought into firsthand. It'd be cool if we could get cameos from Emil Blonsky, Whiplash's suit, and Stane's Iron Monger armor to show that SHIELD is on top of keeping the supervillain threats under wraps. It's just a shame that Iron Man's enemies haven't survived to show up in the future movies, haha

I've been reading from various sites that there's a very real possibility that the carrier AND an APPEARANCE by Ms. Marvel will happen.

Don't know how reliable the rumors are though.

well here is the concept art the has been released.

how do you guys think they will use the helicarrier in the film?

i mean i mean for the sake of the movie-verse what is the practical purpose of the hellicarrier.

i'm imagining that this hellicarrier will surface at the end of the film when the aliens do an all out attack doomsday style and the hellicarrier is the the secret weapon.

but in the process it gets destroyed but a huge battle happens on it.

check out the marvel ultimate alliance clips on youtube.com

alot of gameplay and the cinematics occur in and on the hellicarrier.

but i'm wondering how will they incorporate the hellicarrier into the film as they do with the cinematics in ultimate alliance

can't wait for Sam Jackson to become nick fury on the hellicarrier giving orders during the battles.

awesome looks like the fat windowed one. maybe they will add the window, that front might just be a marker.

also the helicarrier serves the purpose of being their mobile base of operations. so they can setup anywhere and also never get caught in one place. i know you might ask "well how hard is it to spot a giant floating base?". i would say they are high above the clouds out of eyesight and use advanced tech to stay off radars.

copy/pasting my post from the general Avengers thread

I'm curious if the helicarrier will be making use of Stark's repulsor tech to stay aloft or if it'll have giant turbines or something. I really want to see the thing, assuming it's in there. Tony apparently didn't even know about Shield until the end of the first movie so he might be pissed if he finds out a super secret spy organization has been using his toys without his knowledge. Mmm, conflict.

Anmyway, interesting facts about aircraft carrier construction I came across the other day while thinking about the helicarrier:

Putting together an aircraft carrier is like no other manufacturing task, past or present. Each ship costs more than $4 billion, with some 80% of that going to the yard and the rest spent on Navy-supplied components. The job involves 47,000 tons of precision-welded steel up to four inches thick, more than a million distinct parts, 900 miles of wire and cable, around 40 million skilled-worker hours, battalions of engineers, and over seven years of hard work. You think you have tough specs and demanding customers? The Navy expects carriers to dominate the seas for 50 years and come home only once for refueling.

As "runways at sea," modern aircraft carriers have a flat-top deck design that serves as a flight deck for the launch and recovery of aircraft. Aircraft are launched in a forward direction, into the wind, and recover from astern. Carriers steam at speed, for example up to 35 knots (65 km/h), into the wind during flight deck operations in order to increase the wind over the deck to exceed a safe minimum. This increase in effective wind speed provides a higher launch airspeed for aircraft at the end of the catapult stroke or ski-jump, plus it makes recovery safer by reducing the difference between the relative speeds of the aircraft and ship.

i figured the tech came from howard starks ideas or something. like maybe some plans he had laying around for various projects. then shield could always just take whatever tech that was available at the time to come up with something.

I mentioned Tony's repulsor tech because although he hadn't miniaturized the arc reactor or build an IM suit yet, at the start of the first movie he mentions Stark Industries 'proprietary repulsor technology' which was already in use, powering the Jericho missile system. So having been around for a few years at least, it's plausible it could already have been co-opted by Shield for the helicarrier. That's my theory, anyway. Could be way off base.

It's like a floating base of operations for Shield, usually used for transporting Nick Fury or providing backup in case there's a need for defence.

Oh, I know the general idea, I'm just wondering why plump for a flying base when a land or sea one would probably suffice and at much lower cost. Or is it just a case of; "shut up, it's a comic, it's cool"?
