Mad Max is hugely iconic in Australia and the new Max is Tom Hardy, who is a Brit. We don't care.

I'm not criticizing. I just find it funny.

And as far as American icons go, Superman is so far above Captain America.
The only reason Cap needs to be played by an American for me is because Captain America was created as American propaganda.

I'd expect Captain Britain to be played by a Brit and Guardian to be played by a Canadian.

This is a HUGE problem with actors for roles like Cap, Superman etc...the only people who look like them can't act. Most people with those builds played football in high school and college instead of acting.
Clearly your taste does not agree with others.

Jumanji was a lot of fun. Jurassic Park wasn't terrible, but it was a disappointment. Wolf-Man was amazing.

I'm not one to act acting ability, you have to do something that really stands out from the rest for me to take notice. But for me an actor needs to be diverse and have good charisma. Evans has great charisma. He's entertaining to watch. The only problem I have with him as Cap, is it takes away my hopes of F4 going back to Marvel and Evans playing Torch in it. He was perfect as Torch, it's just a shame to see such a great casting choice go to waste like that.

What does Cap being propaganda have to do with who plays him? Remember, it's "acting" not "reality" ....

yea we dont know for sure what really up with the whole casting thing. And from joe's comments he didnt state specifically it had to be march 1st. Just that he was hoping it would be done by march 1st. Since he was/has started to move production to london where shooting is happening. As for the lutz/shars news that stuff was first posted on saturday afternoon. So it wasnt really new as of yesterday as i am posting now. Plus we dont really know whats up with evans. I am sure since we know marvel has offered him the role they probably been working this weekend on contract deal, and scheduling(the possible conflict with that fox romcom film). Then yes they might still be looking at guys like lutz/shars in the slime chance things dont work out with evans. But i think evans is probably going to be our cap.

I found the poll on the home page quite interesting. Until now, I thought the support for Chris Evans as Steve Rogers was mostly positive. It perplexes me and I wonder if there are a good deal of people who feel as strongly about Chris Evans as did for John Krasinski.

I was hoping there would be alot of people happy about Chris as Steve

It's also fiction, but that's not the point. For a role like this, it's more then that.

i for one would be happy for evans as cap. As for the whole john k deal. sure when it looked like he was top choice for awhile. i wasnt at first keen at him. And i was warming up to the idea. i could see some good qualities about him. But i still wasnt feeling him 100%. back in those days i was still going for porter/hedlund/vogel myself. And now with evans i do want him.

Rock, I think Skars for Cap is the first thing we could agree on! Lol...

If Evans can't do it for whatever reason, I'm happy that there is at least a slim possiblitity that Skars is even being considered. (if its true anyway)

I'm not sure; although I think it's not uncommon for studios to sign leads without a screen test if they're a proven talent.

well we shouldnt loose faith. We dont know how things are really going on with the production and with marvel. We dont have all the clue and its no different from any other big budget film. Which we dont know about the details of casting and all that too. I was kinda hoping to have something this morning/now when i got online. But was a little disapointed nothing today. But the day is still young. Though i do hope we will have it known within the next few days. I do hope we know before next thursday. God i dont want it on april 1st to be known lol.

They should at least give the actor that will be play the role one million. For the first movie, 1 mill is acceptable.

I think Routh got a mill for SR, right?

It just seems weird that you would offer someone such a low price for a big budget film

It's been Marvel's motto for a while now: go cheap. Iron Man succeeded in spite of them. They went for Zathura guy to direct and a guy in Downey Jr that had his career down the drain for a while and was willing to accept anything. But they did a wonderful thing. Remember Mickey Rourke almost refused the role of the bad guy because Marvel was lowballing him. And Downey convinced them otherwise.

Yeah man, I am tired of the constant wavering and bull**** indeciveness regarding this casting, then going with a generic name for Skull before we even have our lead. Conveniently we hear strong contenders for a female lead, although it did work for Thor's casting when we first heard about Portman. Worst thing about it is, it's not an issue with the script/story, the director needing more latitude, or budgetary concerns, unless there is something we aren't hearing about. They can't even settle on a lead.

It's all up to Evans. There are quite a few possible outcomes, as far as what and why Evans decision will be:

He might decline it because he has another project to work on.
He might decline it because of the less-than-positive reaction to him in Fantastic Four.
He might accept it, taking it as an opportunity to redeem himself in the eyes of the fans.
He might accept it for the money, and because it is a great role.

Or any combination of the above.

I don't really think that reaction was for him. It was more for the film itself. Most fans loved him in the role.

Redeem himself? I'm not sure where you get that one. While a lot of fans might HATE the F4 movies, most of us like Evans' performance in them. It was the movies themselves (and some of the other actors) that were bad. This is what separates Evans from a guy like Tatum. Even in a crappy movie, he can still create a good character.

Furthermore, do you honestly think Evans gives two sh**s whether or not you like him? Well, he might care enough that he wouldn't want fans to think he delivered a crappy performance, but I highly doubt he would ever just take a role to "redeem" himself to comic book fans. Give me a break.

Also, he might decline simply because of Marvel's notorious lowballing.

There's more to it, I think. And FF doesn't have much to do with it.

"He might decline it because he has another project" -- this is the most likely of downsides for Evans, but more importantly because CA and The Avengers would be a massive commitment for such a young and relatively established actor.

"He might decline it because of...FF" -- eh, I just don't think FF was that big a deal. I know here, particularly, it's been an object of contention, but those films have kind of been forgotten...at least in my humble opinion. Was it mentioned that this actually bugged Evans? I can't remember. In any case, I don't think it really matters.

"He might accept it, taking it...to redeem himself" -- from what? I didn't know Evans had a big enough following that he disappointed. The dude is OKAY in just about everything. I'm at a loss for what he did that so betrayed his modest crop of fans.

"He might accept it for the money" -- highly, highly doubtful. It's not much, even if it's negotiated to a more respectable seven-figure paycheck. Marvel will only go up so much, and with cheaper (and willing) unknowns in the backlog, they could easily drop him and move on.

"...and because it is a great role" -- how the hell do we know? Rumors of the script aside, it's a WELL KNOWN role, sure. But that's bold to say it's great. Could end up being bland as hell and the worst freakin' thing for whoever is cast. I HOPE it's a great role, but it could be the role that kills whoever gets it. We'll have to wait and see.

I think it comes down to the number of films. There's no saying that who they choose won't be able to fill the in-between with their own indie dramas and rom-coms, but it's just that enduring the next decade as the face of Marvel may be just too much pressure. Or not worth the trouble. I've said it before -- Evans DOESN'T need this.

According to Channing........

"I would love to play Captain America," Tatum told Inside Movies last week. "I dig his story." But, he added, he had heard that another "bigger" actor was more likely to be cast.

When asked about the rumors last April, Channing told Inside Movies, "I would play Captain America. But I think there's someone else up for it, and I think that actor is a jillion times bigger and probably better for it. I've heard that Will Smith was toying around with it. If Evans declines, I've got my fingers crossed that there was some truth to the Skarsgård story. No Lutz, please. I saw him on Ellen on Friday, and you can tell he's been trying to make himself look like Cap. He's even more buff than before and had his hair longer than I'd ever seen it, dyed blonde. Still looked goofy as hell, though.

ETA: Now that we know the date of that quote, never mind about all that Phillippe stuff, lol.
