I hope instead of using CGI every time Supes flies, they use wire work instead, or at least where it's possible.
Nothing takes me out of a film faster than some bad CG.

totally i want flying to look as real as possible via either wire work on set for like take off/landing, and maybe a quick fly down a street or something(to be enhanced in post). Then for the more crazy stuff to be cgi creation.

Why not just give Supes hypnotic power, not just the kissing thing. Even Vampires and Jedis [who are lesser powered] can do mind tricks, hell even human beings can hypnotize/mind trick someone [with the right equipment].

If Jimmy presses Clark that he and Supes are the same, Clark uses this hypnotic power, looks deeply at him and puts a thought in his mind that it's not true and drop the whole thing permanently and voila, problem solved, he could do the same to others.

And when it's Lois, she seemed resistant at Clark new power but he still has the kissing power so there, problem solved.

I'd like to see a Superman movie without stupid things for once. No hypnotism, no changing eye color, no magic kisses, no cellophane S-shields, no reversing the Earth's spin to turn back time, no Rebuild-the-Great-Wall-of-China-Vision©...

One thing i'd like to see, maybe have a huge panic in the streets or something caused by the villain approaching Metropolis.
Anyway, people are getting trampled in the mad dash to leave the city.
Supes is watching from above and sees that the police are helpless before such panic, so he lets out a booming, commanding voice, that can be heard over EVERYTHING, including numerous sirens.
People instantly stop in their tracks, and everything goes silent. They look up. He smiles and tells them to calm down and proceed orderly. They comply.

^^ Damn, looks like I got no comeback for that. What did you win?
Just kidding.

And to ask, isn't Clark kissing Lois a form of hypnotism/memory wipe? So if Jimmy or anyone working at the Daily Planet discover Clark and Supes are 1 and the same, what's Clark gonna do, kiss them too? Body doubles, reverse psychology just ain't gonna cut it.

I'm NOT suggesting Clark sit them on chairs and do the "wag the amulet thing" and Clark in a deep voice says: "I am not Superman, I am not Superman". lol

yea we dont need to add crazy powers to superman and all that. i rather stick with the defined power set that is most well known for superman. As for the identity thing, i rather it be handled via distractions, and tricks.

To make Superman more presentable in a real world, I say, just read Geoff John's Secret Origins. Especially the lastest issue.
The military should be freaking their ass off of Superman, there are mixed reaction in the public and Luthor manipulates this fear into his own benefit.
A few ppl has pointed this out, just wanted to strengthen the point.

All of these points everyone is making are presented nicely in Mark Waid's Birthright and in Jeph Loeb's Superman for All Seasons. These two writers take a "realistic" approach to Superman and should be the foundation of the new movie. Everything is right there for Nolan to do a 'Superman Begins' type treatment and rebooting the franchise for a modern audience. If you are reading this and haven't read those two stories, I suggest you do, they are great.

I'll save my take for later on. More interested in what everyone else has to say.
Superman is actually using power armour and a jetpack.

I'm kidding. Great topic man!

There is a great scene in Birthright where his parents show him how to disguise himself. Wear bigger suits and blouses to appear fatter, throw his hair on his face, tilt his back a little, etc...

Agreed!

It would probably end up being more trouble than it's worth to me to take that route.
Agreed.

Anyway, my take on this:

They should make the characters' development, their reactions, their relationships, etc realistic. Nothing more. Its Superman, he's inherently UNrealistic. I dont want pedantic explanations about every tiny bolt of the mythos, i want to see the mythos as its currently shown in the comics. No more Donnerverse silliness, no 90ies grimdark (or TDK grimdark because it sells for that matter), etc.
Take inspiration from STAS and great Superman comic books of our time.

Metropolis: Use a real city so that the movie looks good, but CGI the crap out of it. If Metropolis is NY with a few minor differences i will rage. Its Super ****ing man, not Real-world-man. I dont need it to be realistic or to be set in a realistic city for it to touch me or get its message. I want Metropolis to be futuristic, the epitome of human achievement that it is in the comics.

totally earle there is so much more they can do with this character and develop the world and their actions within it.

As for the city yea i rather go with a real city, and then maybe to make it a little different, do some plate shots of various cities, and merge them together and remove any famous buildings.

I would not make it more "real-world". I think it is a mistake. I think it is a bad idea. I'm not expecting anything from Nolan. But I hope they won't make it like Batman begins. Not all of us are fans of Nolan's vision, and not all of us think the same treatment should be used, and not all of us think this treatment would be good on Superman.
So if I was in charge, I would do a comicbook adaptation, as I think it should be. Futuristic skycrapers, shiny city, mean aliens with green or blue skin, mean business bald man with green armor, pink "parasititic" bad guy, people flying in red and blue tights. I would use the Superman March even if I would use it completely different within the movie.
Or more caricaturally: something like Iron Man. But a bit more sensitive.

Wholeheartedly agree about Metropolis. I dont want it ubber realistic looking.
It should be as big as New York or even bigger, but add in some crazy looking buildings.
Maybe take some of the best looking and tallest buildings from cities around the world and make one large ''Metropolis'' out of them.
