Rather dramatic don't you think? Fox will be hiring a director for X-Men: First Class next week. The fact that they have been talking to a number of directors isn't uncommon. Studios do it all the time.

One reason Vaughn and others may pass is probably creative reasons. First Class already has a script, and Singer/Fox may not want to make any big changes. Directors are creative people and they might want to come in and film their own vision, instead of having to film someone else's.

The X-Men franchise won't be ending anytime soon.

Seeing as Kick Ass was basically a massive **** you to big studios like Fox, I doubt Vaughn will have anything to do with them ever again. Unless like, he has a clause in his contract that specifically states he has complete creative control.

I'd love to see him direct it. Like Ace said, after Vaughn not directing X3 or Thor, Kick-Ass was kind of the anti comic book film and a statement to studios. I think he was meant to do Kick Ass. But I'd be down with him with this. If this is true, I'm surprised Fox is willing to go with him.

After seeing Kick Ass though, i'd prefer him to do Deadpool personally. Vaughn has that twisted sorta humour that wouldn't really suit a mainstream X-Men film. Even Stardust was like a nightmarish fairy tale.

But ehh whatever, he won't do either.

i say stay away from fox studios. if you want to make a comic movie with marvel character go to marvel studios then. you'll get more freedom to make your movie.

Timur Bekmambetov, David Slade, and Carl Erick Rinsch are also in consideration. Perhaps it might be easier to make a list who isn't up for the job!

Well there's no need to be. There's enough behind the scenes drama in the X-Men franchise as it is, we don't need fans acting like the franchise is going to explode in front of their eyes.

The franchise has already imploded since X-3. A hire like LL/Mostow would all but seal the deal. I'd rather they get an unknown and keep my fingers crossed.

David Slade is alright. I liked 40 days of night. To be honest as long as its a Fox studios movie I'm worried its going to suck.

Vaughn for Deadpool Ace? Goddamn, I never thought of that!

Tarantino would be cool, though that's highly unlikely, but I still love the idea of Shane Black doing it.

Vaughn is back in (for the time being)...

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Things are back on with Matthew Vaughn and 20th Century Fox on X-Men: First Class. A deal is being negotiated right now. That's where I told you this was headed last week, until both sides confirmed that the deal hit the rocks last Thursday. Fox, having gone far down the road with the Kick-Ass director on X-Men: Last Stand, had put together a killer list of alternative directors for the job. Several were interviewed, but then others were cancelled after Vaughn came back into the picture this morning. Now, I hear the studio is working with his WME reps to close the deal. Great choice, I say.

Matthew Vaughn circles 'X-Men'
Director a top choice to take over franchise
By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK

Matthew Vaughn has re-emerged the top choice to helm the next installment in 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" franchise.

Fox has been talking to a number of directors about the project over the last week.

The blogosphere claimed that Vaughn was out of the running, but circumstances changed over the past 48 hours.

Matthew Vaughn would make my excitement for this film go from a 1 to about an 7 or 8. If he was free to make an X-Film without the continuity of the previous films then my excitement would be a 10.

Personally, I don't like the idea of X-Men: First Class; thought they should've gone with X-Men 4 or send the whole property back to Marvel for a proper reboot in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe. But if Vaughn agrees to direct First Class, it'll make me interested in this reboot because I thought both of his Stardust and Kickass were good movies. Hopefully he will force Fox to give him creative control before he signs on the dotted line.

I'd only want matthew vaughn to do this if he is able to make a film that he could be proud of, and his way. I wouldn't want him to be studio screwed after making Kick-Ass.

SOmething tells me talking to Bryan Singer convinced him this would not
be a X-Men the Last stand situation.I just hope matthew Vaughn will stay committed If he syas yes.In addation to leaving the Last Stand he also left
Thor.

Intill such time Marvel gets the X-Men rights back(and the rights to use
Mutants In other films) I am In favor for any Singer produced films(and If this
leads to a singer directed X4 all the better)

Vaughn wouldn't sign up to be Fox's puppet. Not after Kick-Ass. If he does sign up it will be because Fox have given him breathing room. The lack of creative freedom may have been why talks failed last week. The fact that they are re-negotiating is a good thing imo

Well, Kick-ass was a great film and I doubt Vaughn would be interested in this if wasnt granted a lot of creative control, I would be back on board this if Vaughn gets the gig.

I hope you two are right. I love Kick-Ass (and Layer Cake is damn good too), and what X-Men needs right now is a filmmaker of Vaughn's skill and caliber.

It would be nice if by doing this X-Men film, that Fox would finance a Kick Ass 2. Hey, one can dream that Kick Ass 2 will get made one day.
