When TV shows go off the air, and have prior notice about it, they make a Series Final to their show. To wrap everything up and let the audience know how things end, sometimes even showing what happens in the future (since the audience wont see it).
But Comics never end. Superman debuted in 1938, Batman debuted in 1939, Spider-Man in 1962, and the X-Men in 1963. They will most likely go on forever. But some stories, like the X-Men for example have hinted at their main goal. The X-Men strive to get Mutants accepted as part of society and eliminate the fear and hatred of Mutants. But because this comic may never ever end, we may never see them reach that goal. What if you could write a Comic's Series Final? Who would you choose? And what would their last story be? How would you wrap everything up? For example, Batman. How would you end his story? Would his final confrontation be with the Joker? Would he finally have turned Gotham into a clean and safe city like Metropolis? Would he continue to be Batman or would he retire? What about a Superman Series Final? Would Clark and Lois have a child? Would Lex Luther die? Would Clark become Editor of the Daily PLanet? Would Lois? What about Jimmy? Would Clark finally reveal to the world that he is Superman? What would his last episode, I mean issue, be about? Other "Last Story" comics are more what ifs. Showing Batman as a grizzled dark character and such, or showing a Bruce as being too old so he brings in a new Batman. But What would the last issue be like if it was completely in continuity and would end that character's story forever? |

Well according to most of the Bat Family, Bruce's mission will end when he dies, there is no retiring for him.

If there was a Batman finale, even if it ended on a happy note, it should be like this
VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:
Signalling that no matter what, Batman will never go away. That he will always watch over Gotham and whatnot. |

I like to look at MOTP as a soft ending to B:TAS. Of course, the universe continued after that for decades, but it's very fitting.

They really need to make a special edition of it on blu-ray.

An anniversary edition where they clean up the animation and bring it up to modern standards would be great. I watched it again not long ago and, even though I still absolutely love the story, I found that the animation is showing its age a lot.

DC really needs to release blu-rays out of their Batman animated movies. :| Personally i think Batman's season finale has to be somehting like Hippie suggested, because showing that even in the future the world needs a Batman, thats kinda pessimistic thought isn't it?

Actually while Mask of the Phantasm was brilliant, Batman's true finale was shown in that Justice League Unlimited episode where Terry Mcguinesse finds out Bruce is his father. That was a FAN-$%@&-TASTIC episode and put closure on both Bruce Wayne and Terry, his successor. If the comics ever did end one day, i would hope it would end similarly to that.

But at the same time it was kinda stupid don't you think? The whole show was about how Terry could be Batman by his own regards, only to find out he was Batman's son and thus succeeded... It's like saying Dick/Tim can't be a true Batman successor because they're not his biological son.

Well..yeah i guess thats one way of looking at it. But the way I saw it is that Bruce Wayne's legacy lives on. Bruce ended up alone, never married or had children, so when Bruce dies, his legacy dies, except Terry has Bruce's blood in him and thus can truly carry on the Wayne/ Batman torch. Well thats how i saw it. lol

I liked it but mainly for Ace's death scene, which I thought was beautiful and sweet.

That part was good, but everything involving Terry and Bruce was lame.

Honestly, I'd like to see Lex Luthor finally win, killing Superman and then realizing just how much the world needed Superman and regretting his final "victory". I'd also have Clark and Lois have a kid (or two) with hints that they'll one day resume Clark's never-ending battle.

I never read it, so they must've stolen my idea and changed it and published it before I thought of it.

I actually like the Kingdom Come endings for Superman and Batman in the JSA issue. Batman walks into the light and focuses on healing. He dies a happy man with a bright legacy to leave behind.
Batman and Superman need to get happy endings. On the flipside I like the JLA Batman beyond finale. He's just an old man who needs help opening his pills while the legacy continues on in his proteges. As we have seen. If Batman dies many are willing to take up the mantle. Bruce to Dick to Tim to Damien and so on. Batman is immortal.
