Default What about the music?

My previous post about music for First Class was closed, which i felt was a bit unfair as it was a discussion about what would be the best music to use in First Class i.e. a score or collection of music.

So aside from that, if first class is made would you prefer a score, and if yes who would you like to score it. If you prefer collection of different music or the music from one band who would it be...

Ya know i quiet liked how they used ACDC for Iron Man, i think that gave the overall feel to the movie some much needed gravity.

And it got me thinking about characters like Cyclops - in x-men 1, wolverine rides Cyclops motorcycle. you can almost imagine in first class Cyclops riding down a high way with acdc song Highway to hell... would be different, could be good.

Considering Vaughn is getting lots of creative control, with Fox letting him bring Jane Goldman in and them shooting in London which is about 1 hour away from his house, i'd say he'll have Ilan Eshkeri who has worked on most of his films.

Yep. And since the production is being shot in London (or part of it), I expect post-production and scoring will be in the UK too to save some money.

I wouldn't be surprised if the LMO site updates their site next year with a scoring session video of Eshkeri recording his X-Men score.

That would be a decent bet..

Ilan Eshkeri scoring First Class?
According to his IMDB page, he is. Of course, it should be taken with a grain of salt given the source.

Here's some of his stuff. The Kick-Ass score is a mix of a few different composers so I picked the ones with just Ilan or Ilan with one other composer.

His work on Kick Ass is VERY Romanists of Kamen's X1 score.

I hope Ilan or whoever lands the composing job gives the X-Men a 'theme'. Each X-Men film has had a different composer and they've all done their own thing.

Spider-Man had the 'swinging theme'. Batman has Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard doing their thing, so I think its about time the X-Men got their theme.

Well, it's not really up to him....all he would have to do is stay alive (R.I.P. Kamen.. ). Initiation of a theme can't be made in one film. Its established as soon as it gets carried over into another movie, sequel, or some other medium.

So, if First Class gets a sequel and he comes back as composer, then BOOM. Your X-Men theme will finally be born.

I think the best score in any X-men film was the one in X2 that has to be the best one to date

X2 may be the best, but X1's is still my favorite..

I can almost envision First Class having mulitple composers much like Kick-Ass did and that might actually be pretty cool. What I loved about the Kick-Ass score was the versatility of the music -- you had inspiring John Williams/Danny Elfman-esque motifs and then some contemporary music mixed in with some classic John Murphy motifs.

In fact, I'd almost suggest bringing back some if not all of the scoring team from Kick-Ass onto this First Class (so long as Murphy doesn't once more re-use his motifs from 28 Days Later and Sunshine... it might have worked for Kick-Ass, but I don't think it would work for X-Men).

Ilan Eshkeri's work for Kick-Ass wasn't that substantial, or at least it didn't seem so, but I did like his work for Layer Cake. I wouldn't actually mind Henry Jackman, who contributed to some of my favorite tracks from the Kick-Ass score (like "Man in the Mirror", "The Mistmobile", and "Flying Home") or Marius de Vries (who also did some truly awesome tracks, like "Roof Jump" and "Stabbing/Morphine") work on the score for First Class.

Honestly though, I would much rather out of all these choices John Ottman compose the score. I know that's unlikely since Vaughn is directing and will likely choose a composer he has worked with before and is comfortable with (a la Eshkeri) but Ottman delivered in my humble opinion the best score out of all four X-Men films to date and I would drool at the possibility of him scoring another X-Men film.

"Very Romanists" ????

You must mean very 'reminiscent'. Are you crap at spelling or did some whacked-out auto-correct screw it up?

Ilan Esherki is not surprising. He's a solid choice, if a bit uninspired.
