I remember Infinite Crisis was a bit messy, but I still enjoyed it. It had scope, major events with reprecussions, big payoffs, and a fair share of Hell Yeah moments. But I keep hearing people say that it blew.
I remember a lot of the tie-ins were forgettable at best, but why precisely does IC itself gets all the hate now?

I think the real hate comes from One Year Later.

Well, Infinite Crisis also featured Superboy Prime, whom many people absolutely hated. And the main thing propelling the plot forward was the fact that Superboy Prime punched a wall so hard that he changed reality. Repeatedly. So, I mean, it's not like Infinite Crisis didn't have its stupid elements. Ridiculously, mind-numbingly stupid.
But overall I liked it. I was much more upset with what One Year Later did to a lot of characters. That was when Batgirl disappeared, Tim Drake became an angry whiner, Green Arrow became utterly ridiculous, Aquaman died and was replaced by some newb, the Martian Manhunter started dressing in head-to-toe leather and became really angsty, etc. It ruined a lot of characters for a long time.

Also where Corp and a lot of people dislike the stuff that followed IC in the form of OYL, I maintain that all that was the logical and deliberate outcome of what DC started with Rapefest '04 and continued through Let's Make Superhero Heaven Kill Earth-1 Lois Lane And Have Superboy from Earth-Prime Punch Off B-List Characters' Heads, The Megaloevent.
A big part of why I disliked IDC and IFC was that as far as I could tell a deliberate decision was being made to turn the DCU as a whole into this sort of self-importantly ugly and unpleasant place and as far as I'm concerned OYL was just the culmination of things that had been in the works for a long time.

I think Infinite Crisis was one of the best thing's that happened to the DC universe. It got me into Dc comics again. I think the main 3 being ***** to each other was something that had been brewing for years. I also love Superboy Prime. I think he brought an interesting element to villany.

I hated it because SBP was a personal insult to purist fans like me, because of the numerous pathetic continuity issues, and because Kal-L was written terribly out of character. And it was (yet another) plot weak Geoff Johns Mortal Kombat 13 year old boy idiotic killfest.
I hated what the original COIE did and I feel it was unnecessary. It was also written on an insulting premise. But it was at least a cognizant story that made some sense....IC didn't even have that going for it. The only good thing that came out of it is at least there is a Faux Earth-Two so Siegel and Shuster's Superman stories, etc are canonical somewhere. Still waiting for my Earth-One substitute so Jerry's great 60's work is officially canon somewhere too...although as far as I'm concerned the real Pre-Crisis Earths are still out there. No, Ass is right, it was all a devious lie so I can trick you all into thinking...um yeah.
Seriously I mean, what's so difficult to believe about it? Consider the competition...Blackest Night? Civil War? Our Worlds at War? Infinite Crisis blows them all away imo.

Annihilation probably wins for me. I may just err toward cosmic events in general, though; I enjoyed the Rann/Thanagar War part of Infinite Crisis, too. Especially the part where Jade died.

Oh yeah, Annihilation.
Huh. ..........................Hm. Nah, I think I still like IC better on an overall scale of themes, moments, and characterizations and having them matter. To this day I can only just barely reconcile Marvel space with Marvel Earth; they feel almost as different to me as two individual companies. Infinite Crisis was that story that made me feel like everything, everyone, everywhere in the DC universe mattered and had a hand to play in the ongoing company universe.

I liked Infinite Crisis I was mostly into the art anyways, I feel sorry for the poor slob completists that had to buy the 52 year long books that are now collecting dust and bird poop.

Just wait until she steals 40 cakes.
And then eats them while cheating on Kyle Rayner.

I hate events in general since they are usually mindless bloodbaths. I dare them to write a big story without killing characters...there's no chance they can do it. I can't think of a single one I've ever liked and one of them (Zero Hour) led to me quitting American comics for years.
